Sunshine Superman in Houston - Help!
An appeal to the BASE jumping community:

The documentary Sunshine Superman won’t come to Houston, Texas unless we meet this petition goal of 1,000 online signatures. We are only at 19% of the target!

Houston had a really big BASE jumping scene in the early days of BASE and many jumpers got their BASE numbers in downtown Houston from the 1003 foot tall Texas Commerce Building. The first four BASE numbers were earned by Phil Smith, Phil Mayfield, Jean Boenish, and Carl Boenish at this building. Rick Harrison, our keeper of the BASE numbers, also got his first building (and first BASE jump) there! Many of these folks also jumped the 30 to 40 objects in the area including legal paid jumps at the Astrodome (at the time considered the 8th wonder of the world) in front of tens of thousands of people. As the fourth largest city in the U.S., I’m hoping this film can come so that Phil Smith, Rick Harrison, myself, and all the old time and newer BASE jumpers can attend it in the city they live in!

Enclosed is the photo of Phil Smith earning BASE 1, taken by Phil Mayfield in freefall, earning him BASE 2, at the Texas Commerce Building in 1981.

Also enclosed is Kevin Venell (BASE 58) jumping the Transco Tower with Phil Smith following him.

Re: [460] Sunshine Superman in Houston - Help!
Petition signed. Those pics are awesome. I see both those buildings on my daily commute. It'd be cool if they were still open since I'm still an ASE jumper. Getting B from such a historic site would be stupendously awesome. Anyways sure hope the film comes to H-town, the birth place of BASE.

You can use any email address to sign... even your basejumper.com address.
It looks like there are over 70k people registered on this site, mainly throw-away accounts and people who have never logged in I'm sure, but maybe they will step up and come out of the shadows to help. WinkWink

What is the idea behind the petition?

The film won't show in Houston unless we can convince Marah's business partners that they will at least break even finanfinancially. However, all they have requested is to meet a petition signature goal.

So how many signatures do you need for it to show in different parts of Australia?

I think you need to find out when your film festivals are looking for entries, then email Marah the information.
