i made one thats very similar to yours, except the cutaway releases the canister, i like this though..... what about cutting away both sides of the straps so it could be released with toe still in your suit? id'e be curious to know how many people here have had the need for a cutaway smoke mount?

my original idea was to have the entire plate drop but couldn't get the system to work correctly, still working on it now actually.... also I have never herd of anyone cutting away any foot mount so I don't know how many would even cut something away, but if theres a problem and you need to get it away cut her away and save your suit first... as far as cutting this away while your suit is on it would all depend on how tight your booties are, mine are pretty tight considering I have to buy second hand suits but with a few kicks the straps work their way through and she flies, made the mistake on doing this in the house almost hit the TV....

How do you feal about adding a velcro tab to the cutaway, like the cutaway system on a WLO or some of the old sky boards?

i am an idiot, and i dont fly big suits, but im curious as to what the point of the cutaway is besides the obvious reasons?

is it for before exit, if the thing starts burning wrong and fucking up your suit before exit? im assuming its not for during flight as there would be no way to reach it? please explain!

DeerBone, I would have to look into it but it can be arranged as long as I can sew it I can make it happen :)!!!

TransientCW - the only reason for a cutaway per my idea is due to after you deploy if there is a problem during a flight of any kind I don't think you would cut anything away due to paying attention to what your doing not your feet but some canisters can shoot sparks (during a flight they wont really be near you or at least they will be shooting away from you) once opened there's always the possibility of the sparks/fire getting your suit now that's where the cutaway comes in.. if you base jump you also don't always have time to undo your leg wing and unstrap something from your foot that is on fire (time is critical) so if you are able to cut the mount away and not worry about more than you have to, big thing is that from a wing suiters perspective I can reach the cutaway with my suit fully on and a couple of kicks and the mount goes flying... that's all I got. I am working on a different cutaway system that will release the entire plate so no kicking is involved we'll see how that goes if I sell enough of theses at least...

could you post a pic of what you totally mean by this I guess I don't quite follow :( WLO is a type of toggle isn't it? sorry if I sound dumb or a n00b :(

Re: [anabatic] wingsuit friendly smoke mount by RAGGED.. what do you guys think??
i was thinking a velcro tab to keep the cutaway cable from coming out on accident, some of the skyboards had a cutaway cable attached to a string that ran up your pant leg for easy access, not sure if theirs a way to do this with a ws, or if the added complication is worth it.... the first time you get a cutaway string in tow that causes a bridal wrap or something else unforeseen it becomes a bad idea rather quick. the reason i put a cutaway on the one i made was to drop the smoke when coming in for landing, 1; so you dont have a hot canister near your gear when everything is on the ground 2; if you jump a canister that is still burning when you land you can ditch it easily rather than sit in the smoke gathering your gear when you land.

on dropzone.com someone was talking about running a cable through their suit to there belly mount camera hole, which was a great idea cause there's no bending or reaching in a high stress mal or whatever is happening, I'm trying to make something simple yet worth having, I just finished a second idea to make the entire plate drop but if you cut the plate you loose the straps (better than loosing a suit or something) working on something to hold the straps to your ankle but we'll see...

link to the second cutaway idea, don't think its ready to put totally into test mode, but eeeeeh!!!! I think im going to try out that Velcro tab idea as well sounds like it would work out to hold everything in place.. thanks for that by the way!!!

you can velcro your shoe laces into the straps.... you still loose the plate though.
