Hey I was wondering if anyone had some info on the Merlin container? All I can figure out is that it is somewhat old and was made for wingsuiting? Is that right? And if so would it still be usable for other types of jumps?

It's a normal 2-pin container comparable with the DP in style... also the perigee pro

How out dated is it? I guess what Im asking is how much better/safer is a DP?

I totally forgot that Merlins, while exactly the same in style and function as the DP, are actually held together with camel feces (common harness glue at the time of their production), and they in fact, don't do exactly the same thing as every other container.

LOL I'd say with your level of understanding of the equipment, they're both equally as dangerous to you.

But to answer your question seriously, they're pretty much exactly the same--four flaps and some grommets, with no difference in "safety features" or whatever. If it has sewn in risers, maybe check to see if it has a confluence wrap, otherwise the differences are only age/color/slight physical appearance differences. There should be no functional differences.

LOL i belive camel feces are know for thier structural ridgidity, and Im sure id get into the same shinanigans with any container.

But thank you for the answer I had no trouble finding info on new containers because its on the websites but when i was looking for the Merlin I just found a bunch of stuff about wizards and old bearded men.

The Merlin was Vertigo's wing suit container.

It's a bit harder to pack because the profile is rounded for airflow, and the BOC sits a little differently, but it's generally going to be usable for most jumps, as long as you can pack it and you're ok with the handle location.
