New from Southern Il
Hi everyone. I am interested in learning how to jump. I cant really afford aff lessons right now so Im teaching myself rock climbing which might have some (if any) benefit to jumping later. Im in the St. Louis area. I have done some scouting and there are a few E's along the river that are doable... Maybe even a 350.. in Illinois. Pm me if you are in the area and need local info or ground crew.
Thanks,
Red

Hi Everyone

I'd like to learn how to race motocross. I cant really afford a dirt bike right now so Im teaching myself to ride a skateboard which may benefit to racing later. Ive been scoping out some dirt tracks in my area so let me know if you need local info CrazyCrazyCrazy

Re: [dride] New from Southern Il
would love some info on your dirtbike tracks. I too am in a similar situation only have my rollerblades but I've always been into extreme sports so I know I'm ready and what to look for and can tell you the tracks I've seen are the BEST. I still cant figure out why the locals dont use it though

Guys! This is a BASEdid you say motocross? I've always wanted to try it! It looks easy. I just started a bare back bear riding club if anyone is interested. We're always looking for new members.

Man, for a bunch of guys who have a chance of killing yourself every time you jump, you sure are nice to people. I'll just leave I guess. Thanks everyone!!
And the last local I heard of jumped an A and got stuck on a line so yeah there are some pros to look up to in my area!

Re: [Redwashere] New from Southern Il
It's the locals you haven't heard of that are worth looking up to.

Also, I really want to get into scuba diving, but I can't afford a tank right now. However, I've taken several baths, and even been submerged in a hot tub once, so I think I've got what it takes.

Also, I know some pretty nice bodies of water, maybe even a 10-foot deep one, like backyard pools and stuff, so if anyone wants info... Tongue

Re: [Redwashere] New from Southern Il
Glad to hear you're interested in base. If you want some solid advice I recommend forgetting about jumping for now. Base nor sky jumping is going anywhere. Work your ass off for the next 5 to 10 years. After you have some sort of financial security, if your still interested in base, go from there.

By re-reading the responses you MAY get some important information but let me spell it out in case you can't see through the sarcasm. The responses are pointing out how absurd it is that you want to get into a sport that has a high probability of killing or seriously injuring you but you don't want to spend the money to educate yourself, you think an unrelated sport might prepare you for entering into it and you are purporting to know what a jumpable site may or may not be. No one will want to help because you are a LIABILITY at this stage. You are failing to see the importance of proper training and education. While rock climbing may play a part in certain aspects of site access and evaluation it won't help much once you are in the jump itself. Time under a parachute is going to help you the most right now so if you want to get into the sport safely and not be a liability to other jumpers then I would suggest you ask yourself how much is your live worth monetarily and then save some cash and get proper training. Once at the local DZ you will find people who may help if you prove you won't put them in danger and are willing to put in the effort to learn.

You mention the local who was stuck on the tower... have you thought that maybe they were just like you and were trying to cut corners to get into the sport and that's why they hit the wire?

Get some time in the air skydiving and then come back here in a year or two with a couple hundred jumps and then we'll talk. I grew up in that area and probably know some of the bluffs you are talking about.

I never asked anyone for anything. Like I really cant believe how Im being looked at.. Im not a dip shit. Im not out to get in the way of anyone else. Im not out to go jump a random bluff! I just think jumping would be fun. Im not really afraid to die. Ive been dealt a shitty hand already.

Re: [Redwashere] New from Southern Il

The thing is that no one here knows you aren't a dumb ass. There are plenty of them that come through here that sound exactly like you and that's why you got the reception you did.

Read through the website, go to the local DZ and get as much info as possible. If you really want to get into the sport then it's worth it to stack the odds more in your favor than in lucks.

No one wants to see you get hurt and it's easier to push people away with just a passing interest who think BASE is an amusement park ride. Don't take offense at the responses, they are in a way trying to save your life!

How do you know these E's are "doable" and how did you calculate the height?
Shortcut
Re: [Bealio] New from Southern Il
Possibly doable. I understand that I am no pro. Along the River,(Both Of Them) there are vertical cliffs, Even though they are not insanely high, the floods in the early 90s basically wiped out all the trees in the valley, so there is plenty of room to land. It would take a pro to decide but there has got to be one somewhere. There is a possible 350 E that I have never seen in person myself. Pm for more detail I guess but the general consensus is that I shouldent be messed with...

That scares me. Accept that you may die? Sure. But not fear dying?
Fear is what keeps you safe and from doing something too stupid.

Just my 2 cents.

Don't listen to these guys, they're all dicks.

Side note, I was wondering if anyone could help me fly jetliners? I don't know if it helps, but I've been giving rides to friends on a girls bike with pegs for 3 years now, so I know all about safely transporting people.

Re: [OuttaBounZ] New from Southern Il
are you serious? jetliners are so fucking yesterday.

i have been playing jet fighter simulator games for over 3 years now, and believe i truly have what it takes to fly an F-16 like a badass. there has to be SOME air force pilot that would let me take their jet for a spin right? i think i have a keen sense of the controls and the very few dynamic factors related to flight.

im also really good at wingsuit proximity flying, in this video game that i downloaded.

Re: [TransientCW] New from Southern Il
This thread is amazing.

P.s. I know about a 1200 foot A that has never been jumped. It has an elevator and a big platform up top to run off of.

P.p.s. I don't actually know how high it is. And I've never been there. I heard from a guy who knows a guy.

P.p.p.s. I heard it might actually be a B that's 500 feet. Details are still coming in.

P.p.p.p.s. Turns out it's a 2 story townhouse. I think it will take a professional BASE jumper to evaluate the object properly, but I'm happy to ground crew and assist with access if you promise not to tell anyone about this hidden gem.

P.p.p.p.p.s. It's also got a sick 6-stair in front of it so there some extra altitude and also a lot of concrete if anyone wants to land with rollerblades. I'll bring my dirt bike for this radical stunt.

So this is my first post after being on this site for 3 years, but this is just too good to pass up. This guy put the soft ball up on the tee and gave everyone a tennis racquet. It's almost like he perused the site for a bit to figure out exactly the worst things to say. Sorry Red, tough crowd. It takes thick skin to survive a cliff strike... Be safe rock climbing!

I don't think you know how to play soft ball. Or golf. Or tennis.

I feel like he's just come up with a new special olympics event, throw in an alpaca so it's a little more like polo and I'm in.

Re: [DeerBone] New from Southern Il
It takes a fair amount of time and effort to become a reasonably safe BASE jumper. First you should head to your local DZ and do at least 200 skydives. Learn to track well. Then hook up with a good mentor.

It is a process. There are easier paths, but they are way too dangerous. So if you are committed to learning, get started on the learning curve. You can easily get ready within a year if you have the coin and desire.

Re: [Redwashere] New from Southern Il

There isn't a whole lot in IL, but you are free to jump off anything you want, just don't bring a parachute along, otherwise people will think you were trying to be cool like me.

....and I've been stuck on a line. Its not that bad btw....if your friends have rescue equipment.

This made my day hahaha.

All in all Red, hardly any of us started with any money, and the ones who did start with money, now have f*uck all!

Priorities dude, stop spending money on health and education and spend it on altitude!

You can do your AAF in three days, and a further 200 jumps in under 12 months, but first you gotta stop spending cash on bulls*it and spend it on sky jumping. still having issues? quit your sh!tty job and make up some resume bullshit and get a better one (f*ck this is something chuck peters would say)...that's what i did and they trust me with millions of dollars worth of sh!t (and 120 lives) i have f*ck all idea how to fix!

However if you are not afraid to die, you are going to end up fukcing up and making us all look bad, perhaps learn to enjoy life first.

Dealt a shItty hand? can i assume you are a ginger? dye that shit and get a stripper girlfriend.

goodluck bro!
