I'm buying my first rig. I need to decide on a canopy. There's no shortage of peeps praising Atair stuff. They look like good canopies. Same with Apex.
At the moment I have three questions...
*Anybody have any experience with Mayhem's?
Most of the objects in my neck of the words are pretty low, like 200-500ft so this will likely be 90% of my jumps. I have some taller targets in mind too.
Are valves and vents on canopies performing well?
Can I use a vented canopy on terminal jumps?
I'm 175lbs and will get a 280sqft.
Thanks in advance.
Don't listen to anyone except me ,my brother !
Do what you want , get the most beautiful canopy with the worst material and oldest lineset and inspect it after everyjump, you are your rigger ... the best advertised harnesses and canopies have failed before becoming successful .
The mayhem is an awesome wing with wonderful flight characteristics either with brakes routed in or out the rings. it is much more responsive because of its profile. if you like BMW & Mercedes you will not enjoy it but if you find fun riding a Lotus Exige , you will love it !
i witnessed a slider down single stow mayhem deploying in Brento , strong sound from the canopy , really fast opening . jumper complained about the lack of bar and beer after late afternoon jumps. his back was fine, the canopy was previously relined with speedwing lineset for jumping the castle ...
the performance of the Mayhem is remarkable in SD envirnoment and quite competitive on SU. if you don't put enough training jumps on the wing, you will lack of the opportunity to know where the excellenet deep brake setting is and of course you will complain about stability if you don't hold the brakes in your ears ...
Have fun jumping anything on your way !
signed by someone who has been on trees with MOJO , TRANGO , RAVEN but standed in wooden sticks on Mayhem ! !
