Differences between articulated and non-articulated harness
Hi, i'm going to buy my first own rig, a 2 hand zak 2 non articulated. My skydiving rig is articulated and i'm very confortable with it. I want to know your opinion about the difference and importance of articulaton for base jumping.
I think that in skydiving is better because you have much time to move and you can doing different position. But in base, i think that is not necesary this extra confortable feeling.
What's your opinion?
I will doing more slider down jumps than slider up's.

Articulated rigs need to be oiled regularly otherwise they squeak when moving around which is sure to give you away on sneaky urban jumps!

No squeaky on the sneaky!

I find hip rings better for climbing hand rails and ladders and such.

I've only found certain articulation to squeak. The kind which is just a round ring usually is far less squeaky in my experience, while the D-ring type is squeaky.

One of the major benefits of articulation is for movement in climbing towers/fences, doing aerials, and walking around in the rig.

I think that when doing tucked aerials the articulation would help take some stress off your pin tension in that body position, but this effect is likely very minimal if it exists.

Hip rings are also very helpful if you need to turn your rig into a temporary climbing harness.

halfpastniner is telling the truth. we used the hip rings in moab with climbing slings to ascend a rope we set on a small tower. the rings are definitely nice for climbing. ive jumped non articulated aswell and it wasnt a problem. although i usually dont snug my legstraps down until before jumping in most cases so i dont think its a huge issue for climbing if youre comfortable with the looser straps.
