Lifespan of a harness + container
Hello,
I have a simple question: How many more jumps would you put on a Perigee Pro in good shappe that was treated well, but has approx. 1000 jumps already?

look over it with a fine tooth comb, if it's not damaged then its not damaged, pay extra close attention to the stitches that run along the edge of the webbing, pull tests will show you that a broken stitch here is most likely to be your failure point. If your questioning your gear you can always have a rigger take a look at it or send it in for an inspection too, i'de rather spend a few bucks to get piece of mind than be sitting at an exit point with gear fear.

This. If it's undamaged then there is no reason it couldn't do another 1000 jumps. Might look tired though.

The pin cover has spots top and bottom where it is hot knived and not turned over. In time that burnt nylon becomes brittle and starts making tiny little hooks that want nothing more than to hold on to your bridle. That is just one thing to look out for on PPro s especially.
I will be getting another one; regret selling my one.

What can be done about that if you find it starting to happen?

I sewed material over mine just because I was very paranoid. I saw a very weathered 14 year old PPro a few days ago and the hot knifing was still perfect. I would say if it starts happening sew some material over it or have someone do it but by then I figure the rest of the rig will be looking pretty shabby any way...
Will try dig up pics of it.

A harness and container will almost last forever. The worst thing that jumpers generally do is leave their rigs in the trunk of a car on a hot day. Temperatures over 200 F will degrade nylon strength if given enough time.

Otherwise inspect grommets for wear and replace Velcro when its no longer providing good adhesion.Keep it reasonably clean a fresh water rinse when it gets dirty, avoid harsh detergents.

Canopies can be subject to mildew damage if left a packed condition when wet.

Here is an old Australian mil study on nylon degradation with storage temperatures to 120 F.

The reason why I say harness and containers can last almost forever is that the breaking strength of a harness in in the tons and containers are really not subject to much loads whatsoever.
