B as qualifying jump?
so how many people out there were ASE holes before they finally got their B like myself. still dont have it but im getting close.

my question is this....... how many of you actually got your own beta and did your own scoping on either opening a B or one thats been previously jumped but you had minimal beta on?

im just curious, cause thats how its gonna go for me.

Re: [TransientCW] B as qualifying jump?
Had zero beta on the first one (and others). Seemed to work out rather well.

SABE... In that order.

Late edit. I was jumping another brand new jumper at the time.

I did SAEB. Scoped, assessed and solo'd my first B. Still not sure if anyone had or has jumped it again. It was about as perfect as it could be...

Re: [TransientCW] B as qualifying jump?
For my first B (being a tad generous with the label), all I had was a town name a geographic feature, and google maps for information. I showed up, scoped it out, and jumped in broad daylight with no witnesses save my ground crew. I knew it was super sketchy at the time, but the more experienced I get the more sketchy I realize it was and it is definitely in the category of "glad I got away with it but I'll probably never do it again sober." So, that speaks more to my inexperience and luck, and against any skill or intelligence.

The smartest decision i made was to bring a ground crew who has defeated an armed mugging, terrorist abduction, cancer, south sudan civil war, iraq, and grad school... i figured some of her luck would rub off on me...

A B was my 3rd object. Got arrested after getting off the phone with you. I'm sure you remember the next phone call.

Re: [TransientCW] B as qualifying jump?
I got ASE and my first B was my qualifying jump for BASE. It was also my first urban, first solo, first static line and first true night jump :))
It had been jumped before but I did my own recon/scoping in daylight over numerous days and got hopelessly lost for about an hour trying to find the stairs. Turned out I had entered a door 10m to the left of the stair entry and they ended up being the last place I looked haha! I couldn't find roof access so I jumped from the 24th floor penthouse balcony.
It was my 34th jump and is still up there as one of the most rewarding jumps I've done :)))

Re: [underseaash] B as qualifying jump?
i qualified for my number with my B.
it was on my birthday, on superbowl sunday.
i scoped it out a couple times, and decided kickoff time would be my best bet, as every fat american will have their eyes glued to the tv for that moment. it was right at sunset too. had my buddy in my car groundcrewing in a parking lot. perfect exit and opening. as i was overflying my car i saw my groundcrew passed out drunk in my car. what a memorable jump!

oh i absolutely remember that and which lovely city you were in.

i think that when i fly back home tonight from norcal, im going to mosy on off by myself, and go get a nice 190' static line close to the house and call that my qualifying jump.............i procrastinated on something very nice thats just about finished, and im sure that i blew my window of opportunity on that one, so this is plan b

awesome stories everyone, keep em coming!!

Re: [TransientCW] B as qualifying jump?
ASEB. Qualified on New Years day evening of 2008. Standing on a blue tarp that covered the side of the building as it was under construction. Pushed nice and hard, tarp slipped under my feet and I basically went straight head down looking at my reflection in the shiny glass surface. Thought about a front flip but had never done one, so pitched and prayed and had a perfect on heading opening. Landed next to a gas station and a homeless guy that saw it came up and said "man that was awesome, can you spare a few dollars". Hard to believe that was almost 7 years ago.

Re: [TransientCW] B as qualifying jump?
B was my second letter. It was my 7th jump and was a solo that I scoped out, well more just jumped from my balcony on the 22nd floor. It was stupid but for everybody that know me I kind of did everything backwards.

Re: [TransientCW] B as qualifying jump?
I got my b with maggot back in early 07 as my qualifying jump.

In typical Magot fashion, it was to windy so we went to a bar and had some drinks.

Then later we showed up to the building and there was a slight headwind. Magot thought it over and uttered something to the affect of "I'm invincible, so why the fuck not". I said well, me too and away we went.

It was everyone's favorite whored out building in nyc back then. Everyone had had their way with that object.

Best part:

I landed and the crackhead / homeless guy below was like, "where's the plane at?"

I just gathered my shit and was getting ready to keep moving, when Magot landed and yelled at the guy " we are 82nd airborne special ops, get the fuck out of here!" And away he went as fast as could be. Magot was still laughing like the maniac he was when we got out of the parking garage.

I miss that crazy fucker, but I have some good memories cause of him.

jump 1 was an A, 280'
jump 14 was a S, 486'
jump 43 was an O, 550'
jump 59 was a B, 750'
jump 130 was an E, 260'

B was jump #59

750' office building, had not been jumped before.
BASE 460 told me that it looked promising so I scoped it out over a couple weeks, then got off her one calm, summer night.

They [buildings] pretty much make up the majority of my favorite-est jumps..

SABEO

I just showed up and jumped my qualifying B. I was lucky enough to be invited and naive enough to accept Laugh I put a lot more work into getting subsequent B's. Doing all the work yourself on a new object, especially a B, is a really satisfying feeling.

Good luck on your jump! It's going to be awesome when everything falls into place and you are celebrating after the successful mission!!!!

Re: [TransientCW] B as qualifying jump?
After 10 years of RW skyving, my first BASE was encouraged by my wayward twin Bro, Randy after he did a 2000' tower in Iowa in Nov. 81.
1. 1000' Building in Houston 1/1/82
2. 172' bridge in TX
3. Half Dome with bro Randy, June 82, (first night jumps off Half Dome done at 3:30 AM
4. Auburn bridge, CA
5. 1100 foot antenna in Houston. This was my qualifier also in June 82
Nice to get the B out of the way early.

Re: [TransientCW] B as qualifying jump?
Great thread, I was wondering the same thing myself.

I went SAE . . . . . . . then finally B. Another ASE jumper and I scouted an entire freakin city and found our own beta. Walked the 40 flights of stairs three times before we got the conditions we wanted then hucked it at something like 2:30 AM. It was flawless. There was even a little "park" across the street land in.

In reply to:
how many people out there were ASE holes before they finally got their B

i was too... but everything other than the E i got pretty much handed to me like a spoiled brat... Tongue to date i've only opened 18 objects, which i admit is pretty lame.Tongue

my qualifiers:
A 300'
S 876'
E 155'
B 240'

however, i have not been terribly active the last couple years, but i now have:

10 different Bs
37 As
9 Ss
44 Es
3 Os

for your stats. Tongue i doubt i'll ever catch up with guys like DTM or Dr Charley, but object variety is the spice of (BASE)life IMO. :)
