Crappy PCA?
Ok so watched this and as a noob I am seeing a lot that I think is wrong

http://www.epictv.com/...v-choice-cuts/600423

Low jump with a PCA, I figure that you would want your helper to hold the pilot chute until line stretch like a static line set up for a quicker opening

Helper pops the pins then drops the pilot chute so the pack job is free to rotate until the pilot chute inflates and the packjob reaches line stretch. results in an off-heading of about 100+ degrees towards the wind.

Am a right in thinking this was poorly done or am I missing something

I agree with you.

Releasing the PC early gives (a) a lower opening, (b) a higher off heading rate because the PC can move, and (c) potentially a higher malfunction rate if you release the PC after the canopy moves out of the pack tray if you let slack rebound into the lines.

I definitely prefer keeping a tight grip on the bridle until the jumper reaches full line stretch.

I have seen some very questionable PCA's from many people over the years. Seems like something a lot of jumpers take for granted... yet people fuck it up all the time. I would prefer to SL than have a non- jumper PCA me off of a low object (learned my lesson on that pretty early on).

But is it that hard to tell someone to hold the bridal as hard as he can untill it gets ripped out of his hand (and explain him how to hold it without braking a finger)? I don't think it's that hard unless the jumper also has no idea what he is doing...

No, the person that's holding Andys PC is a horrible person.

Is the guy doing the PCA a jumper ? If so I'd appreciate knowing who so I NEVER get involved with any of his antics! That PCA was redic and at that height, OMG! I only ask as I recently was going to Jump a 190ft B and have a non jumper PCA me! I went through the process and did a few mock jumps with him, but in the end I decided against jumping as I was not comfortable with him PCAing me and there was nothing to rig a static line to! What happened on Andy's jump was exactly what I was afraid of. I'm going back in 3weeks with a Jumper buddy to pull it off!

My guess is that he was not a jumper. Both him and the jumper have wrist bands so the PCA'er might be either someone he met at a bar/club or maybe a fellow slackliner attending an event.

I would guess he's not a jumper either! I've seen PCA's like that at the Potato bridge tons of times! But the canopy sliding out of the pack tray like that is just scary, the potential for disaster is HUGE! Back to this B I was just about to jump, I gave my non jumping friend all the necessary run through but when we got to the exit he said he was scared just to look over and that he was more nervous than me, so I aborted! You know in your heart that he won't intentionally fuck up! But there are no do overs!

You made a good call stepping back on your jump.... these guys are lucky to not be seriously hurt.

Yeah when I first started jumping almost 10years ago I frequently threw caution to the wind but I soon learned the art of "walking away." The object will always be there and knock on wood I'm still here!
