China Balinghe Bridge Event goes off well
This years festival was uber fun.... everyone is safe and sound. Water level was super high and flowing .... which seemed like a bad thing since we were unable to cross the river , or jump the for the practice Day. But turned out to be a major life saver when a well known , VERY experienced jumper had uber gnarly tension knots above the cascade that spun him in so fast.... Ive never seen a BASE canopy spiral down so quickly . He landed super hard in the high flowing river ,and magically avoided hitting any of the exposed boulders in the river(which most definatly would have caused major trauma). Thanks to unbelievable luck, and C Rider selflessly , instantaneously jumping into the river and swimming across ..... said jumper was saved from almost certain death. Even with rescue personal , and 100's of support folks from china.... they were a bit behind the power curve in being able to assist. Dude seriously deserves a medal.
Amazing that one of the safest object I think Ive ever jumped almost got one of us.
Besides that , and the usual China mayhem....... a huge thanks to Stephan for being the man. Thru his tireless efforts, and endless work.... I can't say it enough : xie xie (syeh-syeh)
Be careful out there.... no matter how safe we make it... we are still hucking our carcasses into space with single canopy systems on our backs!

Now for the 36 hour journey home monday.... the not so fun part of the trip.

correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think anyone ever went-in BASE jumping a round.

Didn't Tom go in jumping a round?

Yet another nasty tension knot malfunction. Add that to the one in Italy. Some times I think I'm crazy then something like this makes me want to dust off that old Sorcerer. That list of mals keeps getting longer. Not necessarily killing people but that seems to be luck as much as any thing else.

I believe his camera was lost to the raging river...

Anyone know know what the canopy was at Brento?

Also one on a Blackjack recently. I'm wondering why there seems to be more. More jumps done? Different gear? The ones I'm aware of disproportionately involve Trolls.

What I really wonder about is how many of these go unreported. A while back we were talking about partial malfunctions. There were a couple in Norway, a couple in Switzerland, I recall a couple here in the US... But if they don't die it may not be talked about or passed over. It might be interesting to start a thread in the incidents, maybe a sticky, and see if we can work up a list of well documented non fatal malfunctions. With a focus on details of gear, packing, deployment etc.

I'm really curious how many of these things have happened.
