Shipping a body internationally
Just wondering, if an American friend died on a trip to Europe, what are the details of returning the body back to his or her homeland? Insurance, fees, logistics, etc.? I don't have experience with this and it would be helpful to know beforehand.

If I ever go-in in Europe, just tote me around like weekend at barneys and stick me on my return flight home.
If not, wouldn't mind my ashes being spread around some terminal cliff :p

If it's anything like Weekend at Bernie's Part 2, you could still have someone PCA you of an exit after they play some music.

I would like a PCA off of a nice tall Norwegian Fjord toward the ocean. As I'm flying away, I'd like an incendiary arrow shot at my body so I'm all lit up as I fly into the sunset.

Soak my clothes in fancy chemicals which burn all kinds of pretty colors. Make sure to coat the lines to make them fireproof, this way the canopy stays afloat for the duration of my fireworks display.

A second jumper for outside video is optional, but outside footage from the cliff is a must.

If you want a serious answer, ask an insurance company that sells travel insurance to tourists.

I can't deal with the charges of 'abuse of a corpse' or 'improper disposal of human remains,' particularly in a foreign country.

On my recent trip to Europe, we had two fatalities in less than 3 days, so this is a serious question.

Many travel insurance companies provide this service in their plans. However, you should probably contact them directly to ask about loss of life from "extreme sports".

For example, worldnomads.com offers an "explorer" package that does cover base jumping (although I have never made a claim with them) as well as loss of life benefits that are paid to the designated beneficiary. HOWEVER, if you look at the details of the policy, loss of life benefits have a long list of exclusions which include extreme sports, even in the explorer package.

When a jumper in our group had to go to the hospital (non jumping related), they were very helpful on the phone and even offered logistical and translator assistance. I am sure they would be able to coordinate this kind of thing as well.

Re: [460] Shipping a body internationally
If the deceased is American, call the US Embassy for instruction. They deal with it often.

Usually, the process resembles:
1. Call rescue (Rega, Air Glaciers, PGHM, etc)
2. Go to the hospital that the person was delivered to, and deal with the police.
3. Call the embassy, have them liaise with the hospital and the victim's insurance.
4. Optional dusche maneuver: Make some cryptic BSBD comment on facebook about "lost one of the good ones" without naming the deceased, because you're special and in the know and your soul is hurting.

Obviously, notifying their immediate family should be inserted somewhere immediately after step 1.

+ a fucking lot. IMO, this falls under ethics.
