Anyone know of any manufacture that uses a different shell for size small?
Every manufacture I know of will use the same shell for sizes small through large and just put in a thinner/thicker lining.
This is great because it means you're slightly more protected with a small helmet! But at the same time, the helmet looks rather big and clunky on your head.
Just wondering about other options out there just to help with clunkiness and maybe benefit from some better aerodynamics.
Not talking WWL James Boole kinda less clunky...but just something that will fit a small head the same way a helmet fits a large head.

Kids/youth models from snow/ski manufacturers, and as a bonus they come with cartoonish graphics!!

Have you looked at the 661 helmets?

I've actually tried on a few youth helmets but the selection at the store in Twin wasn't the greatest and the one that did fit was pretty darn heavy.

661 Dirt Lid is a one-size-fits-all helmet. It comes with a bunch of pads to adjust to any head.
Was also looking at the Triple 8 Brainsaver but they're all the same.
Currently just using the usual Protec Ace Skate.

Going to have to look deeper into some youth snow lids. Just hard to try any of them on when you live in Florida :|

Was just kinda hoping someone with the same "issue" might have found a magical company out there.


EDIT: After some research I've found that Bern uses a different shell for each size. So I will be ordering and trying one of theirs.

Try the Bern Macon. I have a big head and the Protec style helmets make me look like the Mushroom from MarioKart. The Macon on the other hand is much slimmer. Very comfortable and stylish too.

I ordered a Bern Brighton thin shell in size xs/s. The shell is about the same width as my Protec Ace Skate. The Bern has much thicker padding at the very top which makes its sit 1/2" higher on the head. It fits very well. Could be just a tini bit tighter, though. I even got the female version hoping for it to be slighty smaller lol. The protec with medium padding inside fits me tighter then the Bern in size xs/s, it's strange.
Overall, the Bern is amazing quality and I love the liner options. Not as aerodynamic due too the flatter top, but still a really nice helmet.

It'll due for now. Once I need a new helmet I'll try for one of those "Sweet Protection" helmets, or a youth model.

Try the Pro-Tec bucky lasek classic helmet. It's a favourite in the dirt jumping community for being very low profile. Much more so than the standard protec helmets.

I have one and I like it a lot.

That's a good price. Not sure they even ship to the US. I'm not given the option.
It'll definitely be my next helmet purchase. Maybe pick one up locally if I decide to hit lauter next year.
