OSP for terminal jumps
I've been looking for answers but somehow couldn't find any details.

Why people jump the OSP on terminal jumps? Seems to me like people are buying a faster opening canopy and then trying to slow it down by changing slider, packing etc. which seems quite pointless...

Re: [skow] OSP for terminal jumps
My friend owns an OSP and jumps mostly slider down stuff. Occasionally he jumps terminal stuff and he probably doesn't want to spend 3 grand on another rig. Sliders are cheaper.

Re: [skow] OSP for terminal jumps
I am flying farther under wingsuit than I fly under a Trango or a Feather.
If I don't reach my intended landing area with my wingsuit something has gone not according to plan and I will be in an area where I want a slow flying, soft landing canopy, a bit faster opening and vents might be welcome.

If have about 250 jumps on OSPs, half SU half SD. Most of the SU are Prodigy, Ghost or Aura jumps. Up to now I did not modify the OSP pack job compared to my unvented canopies.

There are a lot of people who also dial in their pack jobs for terminal jumps with Feathers or Trangos, i.e. fine mesh slider, direct slider control. I am jumping a 240 Feather and for me the openings are not much softer as that of an 265 OSP.

If I would experience painful openings, I would try to correct this by adapting the pack job, nothing wrong with that.

Re: [HWalter] OSP for terminal jumps
Do you use fine mesh or big mesh?
Do you feel the difference in SU jumps between Troll and OSP, mening the altitute loss in the opening?

Re: [skow] OSP for terminal jumps
I am using big mesh sliders.

In terminal SU jumps I don't feel a significant difference in the altitude loss while opening between Troll and OSP.
That my change if I would open really low.

I have sold my Trolls now and jump only OSP as my allround canopy. Main reason for the switch was the flying and landing characteristic, not the faster opening of the OSP.

Re: [skow] OSP for terminal jumps
Im jumping an OSP for terminal jumps, and I think Douggs does as well. On wingsuit jumps, I just pack it as normal.

On tracking jumps, I don't open up the center cell in the packjob. As that way the openings are normal in speed. If I open/present the nose, it tends to be a bit more 'manly' though next to fine/big mesh, Atair does make a slow sider (its a bit bigger and has a big fabric cross through the center) that helps a lot as well.

But nothing but good stories/experience on the OSP both high and low. That aside, I will be adding the new ATAIR PEAK to my gear as soon as it comes out. The follow-up/replacement for the Trango is quite amazing. Loved the glide, and in terms of flare/landing its the first basecanopy I could fly/swoop like a tiny agile skydiving one (while still having supernice landings).

Lots of good stuff in development there..

Why do you prefer it to ,e.g. Troll?

Re: [skow] OSP for terminal jumps
i just got the slow slider for my OSP 285, and will be taking it terminal in 2 weeks. ill let you guys know how much of a difference it makes compared to the opening with a big mesh slider packed for terminal.

The OSP flies more stable in slow deep brake approach.

But you are hard core young buck and can take twice the beating than the rest of us middle aged gentlemen!

how did your terminal jumps on the OSP go?

Re: [seejake] OSP for terminal jumps
Hi Guys,
I hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread to give my feedback.
I just took 2 OSP's to terminal off Brento last week, 1 with the slow slider (large mesh and fabric across the center), the other with the double layered fine mesh.
The slow slider (large mesh, fabric center) didn't do much for me. It was a very quick opening , probably one of the fastest I've had at terminal, causing a few involuntary expletives. I'll still use this slider in the future but only for non terminal SU jumps.
The double layered fine mesh slider was super sweet, opening softer and better than expected, while still not losing noticeable additional altitude. This will definitely be my choice for terminal jumps in the future.
For the record, both are brand new canopies, same size (265) and I was jumping either my tracking suit or slick, no wing suit.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

The vents also add another level of security in the event of a wall strike
