I've been looking forward to seeing this film since I met Marah in 2004. Huge kudos to her and her team for finishing the huge job of going through all of the Boenish footage and telling their story.

Any idea if/when it will be available for digital download or ordering?

Don't know but I would guess after it makes the festival circuit and general theatrical release.

Anyone know if this will be screened in the Bay Area?

Got to see the first public viewing of this last night, and Marah did a good job! I know it's been a long time in the works but this is DEFINITELY worth seeing for all BASE jumpers, and,....I think even whuffos will enjoy it.

Sad to see that we haven't moved forward with NPS at all though over these many years!

N. America distribution rights were picked up by Magnolia Pictures and CNN Films. The film should hit selected N. American theaters around July 2015. CNN Films should air it in early 2016.

The reviews I've seen of the film haven't been that good, unfortunately.

another one here with a bit more detail... and 460, every review I've seen has been positive, though some were more complimentary than others... and here's the thing: Mainstream media is writing reviews and discussing a documentary about BASE jumping. That's pretty cool in and of itself.

That's fine but seeing the initial trailers, they seemed so much better than what I'm told is the final product - the last few days at Trollvegen. Which is what I had read from critics who described the film as pretty lopsided; instead of providing a more comprehensive view of BASE jumping, only a snippet was provided.

maybe we have a glass half-full/half empty thing then... I saw similar remarks, but focused on the positives rather than the "wish-it-hads"... all in all, it was singled out in more reviews as perhaps the best doc of the festival than any other doc, so that is good news, and its producers are probably pleased with that.

What is really wonderful is that all of those miles and miles of incredible footage has been preserved at last for future (and current) generations to see. Marah, can you come do our library too? Congrats to you for all of your hard work to make your enormous project come to fruition, have heard nothing but praise!

I would suggest a Sunshine Superman 2 with all the great jumps cut together, for a couple hours of viewing.

Thank you guys for all of the encouragement. We are really happy about the response. We have distribution and we be shown world wide on the big screen so a great success story even if it took a long time. The film is very positive about BASE jumping and I think will reach a very wide audience.
I hope people enjoy it who BASE jump as it was made with a huge amount of respect for Carl and Jean Boenish and my uncle Mike who was a BASE jumper and one of the good guys. Thanks for the support!

Most of the reviews were gushingly positive.Also I have transferred 1000's of hours of 16mm footage we are working on making this available in the future. So the film is just the first part!

It is a story about Carl and Jean and the origins of BASE jumping. It is pretty Carl footage heavy. I am sure there are people who will complain( there always are). :)

Several of my friends and I saw the movie on day two of the US premiere in NYC and we all thought it was phenomenal.

There will always be trolls on the internet, and the BASE community is not an exception...

Would you consider entering this film into the Kendal Mountain film festival? Seems to be exactly the kind of thing that would work perfectly there. It's the biggest 'adventure' film festival in the world.

Just caught a showing in boulder of the film. It was very good. Nice to see the old footage of the people who pioneered our sport. Well worth seeing for anyone who enjoys gravity!

Hi Marah, remember all of the first building jumps that we all used to qualify in the earliest days were off of one wonderful 1000' B in Houston. BASE 1 still lives in Houston. When you first visited Joy and I near Houston, the idea for this movie was being solidified. We still have an active BASE community in Houston so let's get a film festival here as well. We could get some of the early folks to even do promos for the film. Anyway, I'll make sure to see it somewhere. Congrats on the success.

9 shows in CA and only the one in TX? It looks like it's too late to register for Houston's Worldfest, but how about at least another screening for TX BASErs if it can be worked out? Also I submit that the film be projected onto the the face of El Cap so everyone can watch from the valley, THAT I would pay lots of money to see.

Damn....guess I will have to drive to Ft Worth.

I must congratulate Marah.

Just saw the movie and it was so good. Very nicely done. I would recommend it to just about anyone.

I've always been curious about the Boenish's and it was finally great to learn more about them.

Jean is a pretty amazing person.

I saw this film in Ft. Worth yesterday. Excellent job of depicting the early days of BASE and Carl's life and death.

Phil Mayfield (Base#2) did a Q&A afterwards. Mostly whuffo type questions but Phil did a great job of explaining everything in great detail.

Watching some of the footage gave me the sense of being there.

I'm hoping the film can be shown in Houston. All the early BASE numbers came from jumping the Texas Commerce Building in downtown Houston. Houston is where the BASE scene was very active during the 1980s.

I don't disagree with with what you're saying, and I agree it would be fitting to show the film in Houston. But not all of the earliest B's were the Texas Commerce Tower. My BASE number is under 20, and I got my B at Crocker Center in Los Angeles, as did a number of others. Crocker Center is shown in the film.

Phil Smith, Phil Mayfield, Jean and Carl all got their B's off the Texas Commerce Tower in Jan. 81. That's BASE 1,2,3&4.

Yes we would love to show the film in Houston. I have created a petition. I am sending to theaters we are approaching. They need to know people will actually go to the theater. We may also rent a theater if nessiary. Rest assured we are doing everything we can. We would LOVE to bring the film to Houston!

Houston and L.A. were the epicenters in the early days. Houston, because Phil Smith was absolutely rabid during the early years of BASE, and I'm damn lucky to have been friends with him, and to do many jumps with him. He was one of the first guys who really showed that you could BASE all of the time, during a period when many BASE numbers were merely skydivers who wanted the number.

I haven't seen the film, but Smitty had all of Carl's film on Betamax. I used to watch them over and over, and that first building jump from Texas Commerce was amazing. Did it make it into the film? Carl had Phil and Phil wearing a bunch of cameras, it seemed like. It was mesmerizing.

I can't wait to see it, but being hundreds of miles from any of the showings, will have to wait until I can buy it on DVD.

I saw this at my local cinema last week and highly recommend it - to anyone interested in parachutes or not.

The footage in it is amazing and the interviews are great. I had read a lot about Carl across this site and other places, but this really shows what a unique and inspirational personality he was. Jean also is clearly an incredible person.

I saw the film this week with 106, 60 and 14 in London and we LOVED it!!!

Thank you Marah and Jean for making sure this project got completed - and in such style and honesty. Carl would have been embarrassed but touched by the professionalism, quality and truth in the content.

Some subtle touches in there. I didn't get the meaning of the final sequence until a few hours later on the train home.

Was an enjoyable film
I did not realise that his final jump was from a different exit on the troll wall

Wow. It turned out better than I would have hoped. It is amazing how Carl documented everything, even phone calls, and Jean hung on to all of that film.

Carl was the top skydiving photographer of his day, and his movies made the rounds to every DZ in the world. Then his BASE films started coming out and BASE just exploded.

John Long talks too much in the film. He didn't know them that well. Certainly not enough to call Jean "The brains of the operation." His presence in the film is way too big. Phil Smith didn't have more than a few sentences. He's a bit more close-lipped than Largo is, though.

Marah did cover the origin of BASE very well. There is stuff in there that still matters today.

Jean has aged, but looks and sounds well. She was always such a nice person. After Carl's death she was like a mother hen to us all and did stuff like keep the BASE numbers and organize Bridge Day every year for many years after Carl died. She was such a sweet person.

Rich Stein used to take us over to their house and jump on the trampoline. Carl had died the year before, so I never met him, but he left so much film that there was enough to make what turned out to be a really amazing film.

I love the stitched together ultra long wingsuit flight at the end, and the music was perfect.

I've worked on movies, and I can say that editing it is the hardest part. You have all of this stuff. Now how do you tell a coherent story out of it? Marah did a tremendous job of letting the film speak for itself, and by the end, when Jean was talking about Carl's death, I shed a tear. Yeah, I cry at movies.
