Re: [Dunny] Tree landing

Are you not taught to look at what sort of canopy you have this time?
In slider down, I would hope that nobody would look to see what kind of canopy they had if their heading wasn't optimal. Personally, I've never had the luxury of a second and a half to waste when having to turn around a 180.
Heath is an absolute ninja. I've watched him personally react so fast to slider up and down 180's that I question how many others would have been able to do the same. When I put myself into that situation from thinking about it on the luxury of a screen viewing from a couch, I can't see any different reaction. To look up, think about what kind of mal you have, then react accordingly would have already eaten up all of the time he had under canopy and he would have no idea where he was landing. Instead, he kept his eye on where he wanted to go and made micro adjustments while in a spin which ended up clearing it. I have a video of a similar event at bridge day in which I reacted a similar way.
https://vimeo.com/96435195 Looking up, thinking, processing, and then reacting is great in skydiving or BASE jumps in which you have the luxury of time. However, this situation did not have time and I think this reaction to survival is an absolutely crucial skill to have in BASE that a lot of people lack. He didn't freeze or pause, just totally rocked it through. I applaud it, and think it was handled the best way possible in the shortest amount of time.
Maybe, just maybe, it will serve as a reminder we don't really have to track to some arbitrary line over the trees and to give ourselves a slightly larger margin for error. Would be nice to hang out in the valley without seeing people sniveling through the trees

.
Although I do agree with your point and think that at places like Kjerag it's important to have those skills of looking up and checking, this particular case just didn't have the luxury. With Heath's experience, the reaction seemed warranted.
