What's the longest you'd personally leave a packjob and still jump it?
.

Just wondering how long people here are happy to leave a packjob and still jump it.

ie. the maximum personal time you are happy with.

Also, are there actual possible effects on the opening time/ heading reliability if the packjob has been sitting in the rig for X amount of time? (assuming you have opened it up and checked it, and it all looks good)

I'd be interested in peoples personal maximum time for both slider up and down jumps.

THanks in advance.

My rule of thumb is that if I can't remember doing the pack job, I'd unpack it.

What a terrible rule:)
I'd have to repack every couple of hours. I have a horrible case of CRS...

I just recently jumped the rig I had packed before my accident, was fairly sure it was slider down... Haha. Opened just fine, after about 22 months.

Jumped rigs packed for well over a year and in a few cases a couple of years.
Recently jumped a skyrig that was packed about 6.5 years ago... worked great.

I've jumped multiple rigs packed for 3-4 years .... Slider down mostly .. Pretty good heading performance, and brisk openings ... Jumped a two year old pack job slider up two years ago ... Uneventful

I did a search several times and could not find anything relevant.

Can you post a link to the previous thread/threads about this for me, thanks.

took me 30 seconds... typed "pack job"..... and this was 10 YEARS AGO.

I guess pack jobs dont go stale.... but these forums do.

And if you want me to post the answer to the question I found it in the 10 yr old post from OG 460:

"The exit point is not the place for gear fear. Do whatever you need to feel comfortable. If that includes repacking, do it. Just think, would you want to be in a hospital regreting for the rest of your life "if I'd only spent 15 minutes doing what I thought was right."

Re: [MrHey] What's the longest you'd personally leave a packjob and still jump it?
For me it depends on how often the pack job is being moved around, and how it was packed. If it is just sitting in a room, and not being jostled around, and I know how its packed (slider up, down, deep, custom deep brakes) i will go for quite a while. I feel like the pack job being so compressed will actually be affected by the air less because its more of a brick coming out than a freshly packed piece of nylon. If its been packed for a while and ive taken it on many hikes trying to get in loads, I will repack after a couple trips out. If I cannot remember the setting of the breaks or weather or not its slider up or down, Ill repack. Obviously.

And what exactly is the problem to open the container and check?Smile
I mean, it's all right there, slider, brakes, even inderect\direct control. You just open the container and lift the packjob a bit. Than just close again.
