Building BASE Container
I have been playing around with the idea of building a Container from the ground up. I have access to a harness machine so I plan to build the harness myself. Anyone ever done this besides a manufacturer? If so did you use type 17 or type 8 webbing? articulation? any pictures or drawings of the harness design? or any good advice to pass along?

Talk to Nick Burden (ineed2fly) on here. He has been making his own containers and canopies.

A lot of times you can call the manufactures, and "inquire" as to your curiosity. They will give you the answers you need

I'm working on/not working on(I'm lazy) a rig myself.(see attached)
Got a lot of my info from Nick Burden.

You can buy supplies from:
http://www.dj-associates.com/products.html

http://www.paragear.com/...ACHUTE-RAW-MATERIALS

For fabrics, container is usually made from 420d Packcloth(It's a slippery/silky durable fabric used on parts that touch the body and used to line the inside of the container)
And 500d/1000d cordura for the outside of the container. 1000d is more durable.
You can buy those here:
http://www.seattlefabrics.com/nylons.html

And make sure you get a good binding foot...
For thread use Bonded Nylon "E" thread.

I'd suggest making a miniature rig for a teddy bear first.

Oh, and making patterns SUCK! You're gonna have to make your own from scratch. That's why it sucks...Easiest way is to find a cheap product of which you're trying to make a pattern off and seam rip that shit and use it as a template. So for you, buy yourself a cheap velcro rig and tear it apart or something...

Re: [Shredex] Building BASE Container
a borrowed harness machine, some hardware, two rolls of duct tape, about an hour and a half of total work and bam!

best rig ever. Unimpressed

Finally! A proper use for Velcro containers. Good thinking :)

Woah, I just saw the picture of the duck tape rig. Did anyone actually jump it? If so, that's well beyond epic and you should Please post pics/video. You should get sponsored by 3M or something.

I think you mean Type 7 not 17. But Type 8 is plenty.

Now you just need a matching duct tape parachute ;)

Re: [JacobG] Building BASE Container
I will give you some prototyping tips to get your ideas in shape.
a. Buy Lawnchair webbing for the harness design and sizing.
b. Use cardboard to design the container size to fit the length of the risers and volume of the canopy.
Play around with this until you are happy, make templates and build your rig and remember that sewing makes the sewline shorter with proper tension. sew through the same materials after marking 10cm, then measure after. Adjust accorrordingly. Buy Pointer's Manual and read first the relevant parts.
I hope this helps.

Good idea with the template. I have both poynters manuals, and have a good bit of sewing experience, as im a senior rigger. THanks for the advice.

If anyone would like them, I have patterns that I created in Corel draw when I was building rigs. The can be printed at full size on a plotter (every sign shop has one). I think I have maybe 5 sizes that I worked through. Free to whomever wants them.

Have a picture of a completed rig using said template?

It was done in a location where people cliff jump into the water without a rig. So maybe not so crazy :P

Re: [JacobG] Building BASE Container
This is addressed to ANYONE reading this thread... once upon a time I entertained the notion of making a container myself... to the point of chopping apart an old Racer harness, starting to copy my friends old velcro rig (Perigee) and so forth. So I've got some rough cut parts, that old harness and so on still sitting in my garage... buncha internal foam padding stuff, buncha black cordura....

Anyone wants it, it's free... you just send me a check back for the cost of shipping....

Re: [crapflinger2000] Building BASE Container
Sorry to clarify I did not chop up the racer harness... I chopped it OUT of the old Racer rig... the harness itself is 100% intact... if a little fuzzy.

I quickly figured it out.... Haha

Re: [DeerBone] Building BASE Container
It is finished. It looks like s**t, but it should work,...

As don't have double needle machine, and my machine has only bottom transport, this is the result that I have got.

Next step is to have 5-6 people hang from it while it is connected to ceiling. If there are no broken stitches I am going to jump it Tongue

I don't expect any problems as harness is made with cord 5 on harness sewing machine.

Are you gonna call it a Hybrid Tongue

Re: [MBA-PATTO] Building BASE Container
No, I'll call it Huck it. Cool As, it is made according to Huck it designs.
Only modification is pin cover flap. This way there is enough space around pin grommet, so pin can rotate in any direction around closing loop.

Re: [jerolim] Building BASE Container
Nice Job . . It adds that extra accomplishment for BASE, makes all your jumps just a little bit better .

I cut, sewed & jumped my own Container Systems & all supporting components for many years . Makes you feel good inside .
I can also remember that very 1st test jump on the 1st Rig I sewed .... Was a great MindFuck jump ... LOLhahaha

Re: [RayLosli] Building BASE Container
Here is my first attempt at a rig...

https://www.facebook.com/MoonlightRigging
The design takes watch thy bridle dot com' pin locks into consideration. Pin cover style under development... It's a bottom loop top flap design, and she packs up small. The container is build using my BJ 240, but mortals might feel better with 220 in there as I have been packing professionally for over 10 years ;).

It's not quite finished, but it will be soon. Then I'll build you one ;).

Re: [IHazySky] Building BASE Container
I did some Single-Pin & Double-Pin Container systems and also jumped them a bunch.
The hardest (most challenging) thing I found was the Pin Closing Flap . Even though they all functioned, I was always re-cutting & fucking changing them . I could NEVER stick with one and drove me crazy. never settling satisfaction with the overall looks of design of any I made .

Nice! My First rig looked like that. The second one i built looks much better. I even had a few people ask where i bought it. In video link is Me jumping a Rig and wingsuit i built. Figured i would test both at same time from Mt Brento. It feels amazing jumping you own gear. Good Luck!

I finally went and jumped my harness, and modified raven 2 with valves ;)

Re: [jerolim] Building BASE Container
Just to add, that I don't recomend Ravens for base. Angelic
The one that I used was super modified raven with only 5 jumps.
Mods that were done to it are :
- Tail was reinforced
- Bridle attachment was reinforced
- Additional crossports are added
- There are added 6 valves to 3 center cells
- Botom skin was reinforced span-wise
- Tailgate was added
- Tailpocekt was added
- Upper brake setting was added

I like spending time on sewing machines Tongue

All fabric was stress tested (manually) to make sure that no fabric will fail.
And exit point and landing were super forgiving.

Stay safe!
