Lots of people have asked, and it looks like the 2nd Edition of the Great Book of BASE will be available in about 2 weeks.

This is a great resource--easily the most comprehensive thing that anyone has written on BASE generally. While there are always things that some will disagree with in any materials, this is a great source of information for all jumpers, including beginners.

I feel strongly enough about it that I include a copy of the book with the student materials for every student in our Fundamentals of BASE course.

Not to comment on the book and it´s contents in any manner (I have not thoroughly read the first edition bot browsed it through and it looks like quality work) but what happened to the basic rules of the board? Or are these no longer valid so you can promote and advertise products freely on the boards nowadays?

I think that in this case, an exception can be made.
I mean, if someone would post something like:
"Hi guys, how can I pack my Saber2 135 to jump from 100 meter crane(and I aint making this one up, it happened)"
And you would reply him suggesting to go buy a base canopy and give him a link to para-gear, should that post be removed?
Same goes for basically any post on any new gear that comes out.

I don´t disagree at all! I think distributing information about new gear or source of information (such as this book) is all in the favor of the sport. I´m simply curious to know where the line in these exception will be drawn as there i a "No advertising" rule listed in the Forum rules.

Is it ok to advertise any new gear coming from any new manufacturer? How about FJC´s / other courses? Is the "no advertising" rule only limited to products / services not directly related to BASE jumping such as penis enlargement pills? (Some people could argue that those products are indeed directly related to the sport, at least based on the amount of "look at me, I´m rad" -videos posted on youboob in order to perhaps compensate other shortcomings in some other areas of life...) :)

I have no commercial interest in this book. I'm not involved with producing it, and I don't make money from it.

I posted this because I frequently get asked if/when it will be available in print again, here, and in person, and by email.

Given the demand and interest from the BASE community generally, I view this announcement as more of a public service than an advertisement, especially since it is not being made by the author/publisher/retailer of the work.

When someone asks to post something like this, I review those requests on a case by case basis, and there are several other cases in which this sort of thing has been posted (for example, most recently, note the link in the beginners forum thread on packing, to the web site of a packing video for sale).

Posts about the release of BASE 66 in english, and the release of Confessions of an Idiot, (and the release of the first edition of this book) were also made on this forum.

I do not recall any comments from you about those posts, but it's possible that I've simply forgotten us having this discussion on a previous occasion, and if so, my apologies.

The fact that we are seriously arguing about the whole "this is advertising!!!!!!" thing makes me sad inside.

I don't see any arguing, clarification on the rules was asked and an answer was given.
