BASE friendly health insurance
Does such a thing exist here in the US?

Trying to get my things in order for a month of heavy jumping. Am good on Accidental Death ($200k) and rescue insurance (American Alpine Club, Global Rescue and GEOS Search and Rescue - if others were preferred your thoughts would be welcome) but am having a very hard time finding health insurance that covers BASE.

I'm a Canadian living and working in the US without insurance through work and thus my options are more limited.

If anybody had suggestions on BASE friendly health insurance - or how they managed to cover their ass in case of getting broken - they would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Bryan

Re: [tyro] BASE friendly health insurance
Many US employment-based policies cover BASE.

I'm not sure if you can access something like that, but it's a much easier route than trying to buy individual coverage that will cover it.

Thanks Tom. Regretfully, I'm unable to get an employment-based policy since I'm consulting right now and therefore am not eligible for the group policy.

Re: [tyro] BASE friendly health insurance
My Obamacare, Blueshield plan has no limitations on how I get hurt... Just paid out 40K for a skydiving injury, and I have confirmed it would also cover a BASE injury.

Re: [nickfrey] BASE friendly health insurance
Can a Canadian citizen get that plan?

Likely only a permanent resident (aka green card holder).

Tyro - if you haven't already, search for a thread on here from a couple months ago on travel insurance that covers BASE & other 'adventure' sports. I believe many of them cover Canadians too. CDN auto club insurance is good and cheap too. Finally, are you sure your insurance from back home won't cover you? RTFP2 (which means: Read The Fucking Policy 2wice).

CAA covers BASE jumping and it's cheap! I paid $100 for the year.
As long as you are not doing it professionally, or for competition

Re: [Lonnie] BASE friendly health insurance
Thanks all for the very helpful advice, including through the pms.

Wasn't eligible for Obamacare unfortunately and Canadian healthcare for sure doesn't extend to the US.

Lonnie and Surfers, CAA is hands down the best option I've seen and will fully get the job done; many thanks!

I worked in the US for years(12) on a work permit and got medical insurance. Things certainly didn't get easier after I became a green card holder or even a citizen!

Didn't you once tell me that CAA coverage is limited to time spent abroad? ie. out of Canada too long = no more coverage?

Re: [Fledgling] BASE friendly health insurance
The basic coverage if I remember correctly is good for trips of 90 days each trip. You can buy top up coverage though if needed
