Did this guy not have any friends or is it just a sign of the times?
When I first started jumping a fatality started discussions and condolences were offered. Nearly a month has passed and not so much as a BSBD or Fly free, let alone a discussion as to what may have been the cause.

Shame we have become so used to these accidents and that his friends wish to sweep things under the rug so to speak.

Re: [jools] Fatality Switzerland (Brienz) 24. May 2014
maybe some people are not into the web2.0 mourning thing?

i personally dont like doing facebook and forum RIP posts. if i knew the deceased or any of his friends and family, id rather reach out personally and directly to them.

i dont think its nice to say that his friends are trying to sweep something under the rug here. the way someone deals with a fatility of a close friend is a very personal thing, and just because no ones posting here doesnt mean he had no friends.

He was a really good friend but he wasn't at all into the webbase thing. I passed my condolence directly to his family and relatives as I guess all his friends did. I don't think this has anything to do with getting used to accident but more on the importance you give to the internet circus ...

He was an amazing guy and will be missed.

This is an 'Incident' forum. This is where we learn valuable lessons. BSBD responses would be found in the 'BSBD' forum.

If you read the sticky "Addition of BSBD Forum - Please Read" thread, it's states

"for all memorial type posts such as 'BSBD', 'RIP Buddy', 'Sympathies to the family' we kindly request you use the new BSBD forum section. Where you can pay your tributes and offer your sympathies."

Yawn,

You are not getting the point of my post and I don't give a fuck where you should post what. May I suggest you & Guide get jobs as either librarians or teachers you dullards… possibly traffic wardens seeing as you like important rules so much.

It is not about a lack of condolence posts per se.
It is about a fatality going virtually un-noticed, no discussion as to what may of happened, no acknowledgement from the wider community, nothing but a local newspaper report.

I must say I am not a fan of internet mourning, especially if you never knew the deceased.
I do however find it a little sad that a jumper passes and nobody acknowledges it and his memory simply fades as if nothing ever happened.
10 years ago a fatality was a major occurrence in the BASE world, now they have become so commonplace we don't even notice unless it is one of the Yourtube superstars.

Not just that. If a well known person, liked very much person, lots on youtube/vimeo/FB person, long in the sport person, etc. person goes in, there generally is more outcry then when a - fill in opposites adjectives of above - person goes in. That is understandable in a way, but I fully agree with Jools that we should learn from each others errors. Being fatal or not. And, if people keep on making the same mistakes, we should learn something from why people keep on doing that. My 2 cents.

so nobody knows what went wrong in this one? was it a judgement error coming to close the terrain? or is there a different lesson to learn? I hope whoever has the details will take the time to write them soon.
