General BASE

Shortcut
#1800
Issued tonight. I was a proud member of Carl's ground crew for some very exciting adventures. Never will forget him taking a carton of buttermilk (the strongest thing he ever drank) out from under the car seat after eight hours in the Texas sun and drinking it with GUSTO!

In 1998 the applications were hand written (I still have them all) and had a postage stamp on it, the adrenaline shone through!

In 2014, most apps come by email, the adrenaline still shines!

Much has changed, but not the family, be proud of being a part of it.

Thank you all for enriching my days,

Joy

Thanks for all the efforts Joy.
I made a hand letter for you, but then decided deciphering my chicken scratch hand writing would take at least a couple months, so I printed it out Tongue

Re: [JOY] #1800
I've tried to be as digital as possible for many years, but there are some things that should be written by hand and my letter to Joy and Rick was one of those. Cool

Not quite up to 1800 yet on http://www.BASENumbers.org but very close.

I had thought I was starting to see a pick up in the rate of numbers issued in the low 1700s but it seems it was a blimp and has leveled back again.

I get the chance to say a BIG THANKS for your effort in keeping the tradition alive.
Even if so many jumpers don't apply for the number, I'm really proud to have mine, I'll ever be to have accomplished such a goal.
Thanks to you and all people that sacrificed their lives (litterally) to give me the possibility to be a modern (and safer) base jumper.

Re: [JOY] #1800
I remember when I got my number, 637. I was soooo bummed because the guys I was jumping with were in the 200-400 range and I thought I got in all late and lame. 637 is seeming rather old school now! So damn happy to try and be apart of the whole history of BASE thing. Still jumping tons, thanks Joy.Cool

So you qualified 98/99? I remember there was a race for 666 around that time.

I think it was closer to early/mid 2000 for his number(same time I first met Spiderbaby, or was that 2001?)... I got mine mid 1999.... well I qualified at that time. Wasn't sure if I was even going to get a number since they were in "limbo" at the time.

LIMBO #'s
It took a bit of time to get the "limbo" numbers in order, but it was done in an impeccable manner and has been ever since. Just so you'll know, I love getting your info by email now that I'm adept at it, you puppies are keeping me quite busy these days.....

I just want to say thank you for taking the time to hand write every response! I really appreciate the card I received with my base number, it's definitely one of my most prized possessions!
