World Wingsuit League Competitions
I'm not sure which forum is the best forum to post this but I suppose I cant really go wrong with the general forum can I?

I've thought a lot about this, as wingsuit BASE is the primary reason I've set myself out on the journey that I have. I have a huge desire to wingsuit BASE, and terrain flying (although excites me a lot) is something I feel is too risky to every do. HAHA Im sure many better people before me have felt this way (just like swooping to many skydivers) only to find themselves with something only this discipline can fulfill. I have a problem already though....... it is the feeling of flight and RW when it comes to the control, and navigation that would come with WS terrain BASE.
In an effort to make this somewhat "safer" I have a question to ask everyone..... would you be as likely to watch or be interested in the WWL or WS BASE in general (from a competition standpoint) if it was "safer". Would you participate in this sport or activity if it was made "safer". How would you feel if the sport could become a little more commercialized or socially acceptable?
To the point, since Redbull is one of the main (IMO) sponsors when it comes to WS BASE/WS BASE events, and they own the technology of the air filled pylons used in the Redbull air race. Why not employ the same technology in the WWL competitions? perhaps come up with a slightly thinner fabric to be used for WS BASE so that WS pilots could hit them and either fly through them, or have them fall apart around them. WHile at the same time allow for sharp turns, rapid descents etc AND make the sport "safer".
Flame away if you like, but I am genuinely interested in finding out if this could actually be used as a way to not only continue to give people the feeling that they need from WS BASE but make it safer and more main stream at the same time.

***Edited from here to add,

I believe the Pylons could add the 60 - 120 window of safety to altitude above the ground, AND provide another level of control for the pilots (much like the air race pilots) that will have to aim for a specific altitude target AS WELL AS gate targets for turning etc. Making them maximize their flight characteristics in every possible way, ensuring that only the best pilots are able to compete.

Thats kinda like asking 'Would you watch NASCAR/F1 if you knew the drivers would never crash and burn?'. The danger aspect doesn't really excite me at all. If there was a big red shiny button that would make sure there'd be no more entries in the BFL again, I'd smash the crap out of it.

I disagree..... I watch NASCAR expecting and Hoping for a crash..... I am also expecting that the safety measures will make them spectacular AND survivable......

without airbags, doors, and a frame around you I would NEVER want the same with this or the air race..... although I will give Matt Hall credit for bouncing off the water and surviving.

All your other points are invalid.

thats why MOST of us will simply TALK about and watch the WWL over the years. its what seperates those who dream and those who do........and thats why i find the WWL races so fucking awesome and intriguing.............will i ever compete? probably not, i dont have the level of dedication/passion involved...........but in the meantime, im on my own path and am happy to watch the few people who compete shred the fuck out of those lines.
