Re: [Zebu] Jumper interviews with news after illegal building jump
"Rapoza says he also helped building owners install security measures to ensure that this stunt could not be repeated again."

Is it just me, or is this the exact opposite of what you're supposed to do per BASE ethics?

"The sport of BASE jumping itself has been around since the late '70s, before the advent of the Internet or GoPro cameras."

That one was just worth repeating.

I just read the article, and didn't watch the videos, but it sounds like he got busted after the jump. Maybe the cops took the footage from his helmet cam.

Perhaps he offered to help with the security to ease the heat on him. Shit, 2000 bucks in fines is a lot.

Still doesn't explain the news interview. Or maybe none of this is true and he's just a wiener. Who knows.

If he opened the site, it is his to do as he wishes IMHO.
If it was other's site then he could be a candidate for T&F. But maybe, he could have been very clever and left a hole purposely in the security so it doesn't affect jumpability or even makes it more jumpable. Then he would be a hero.

I honestly agree with this. And very true about security. If you explain to security how you got in and how they could fix it, you now know exactly how to get past it again, or lead them to believe what they are doing is actually going to keep people away... while in reality you are giving yourself and any others the advantage.

Re: [try2live] Jumper interviews with news after illegal building jump
I dont care if he burns hes own sites, here are my questions.

Why talk to media? Why tell them tech info? 200 ft, tail wind, (on a building jump???) what other objects base jumpers jump? Really the wind is the most important, I could think of a few more important things....

Why film yourself prying open a door? Why is a photographer giving security advice? IF he was that good wouldnt he pick the lock?

What are the current BASE ethics? Are there any? Do we just jump what ever in the fuck we can when we can? Why didnt he day blaze the building then?

He talks about the "perfect jump".... but 3,000 dollars in fines, arrested, head low,1 sec delay on 535 ft, feet, knees, face landing is perfect?

I know he is a well liked jumper.... I think he should have defiantly done it in the day..

.

I thought he was the 1st jumper off? If that is the case then the poor landing was the 2nd unidentified jumper who was filming the 1st jumpers head low 1 sec delay.

My question is... How in the hell do you get busted when no cops were around when you landed? Why did you guys choose to land where you did and so far apart? Was that the plan?

It seemed a bit windy up there to be a perfect condition for a B jump for me, but 'perfect' in one aspect is often not-so-perfect in others. I guess the perfect part was that they gained access. Wink

"You need a tail wind to push away".....

Of course it was windy.. I only jump buildings w a safety margin of a tailwind.

Great advice.
