Sizing of the OSP?
Heya!

Just a question for you peeps out there..

Is the size of the OSP "similar" to the Troll?
(troll 245 = PIA spec 260, right?)
Shortcut
Re: [DoZ3r] Sizing of the OSP?
another question,

what is the sizing of the osp lite ? does it compare with the trango in terms of pack volume?

sorry for the hijack Tongue

Re: [DoZ3r] Sizing of the OSP?
atair measures all there canopies the same
Shortcut
Re: [DoZ3r] Sizing of the OSP?
OSP and Troll are sized the same.

So the OSP/Troll 225 is the equivalent to the 240ish from everyone else.

The pack volume on the OSP lite is definitely larger than the Trango. The OSP has more fabric (extra stabilizers and vents) and larger lines (heavy dacron instead of vectran).

For what its worth, if I lay an OSP 225 on top of my fox 225 my fox is slightly larger.

It also highly depends on the lineset. If you have a dacron set on it (= all jumps are ok), there is significantly more bulk on the tailpocket compared to a Trango as the Trango has microlines on it (as per my knowledge the Trango3 has vectran set on it but nevertheless it has less bulk than a standard dacron set). I have however an UL Troll 245 fitted with Dacron set and have no problem of packing into an LD2 sized for a 245 Trango. It is definitely a tight fit but it works fine.

It's been about a year since I inquired, but the last I knew Atair refused to put anything other than the heavy dacron line set on the OSP.

Re: [TomAiello] Sizing of the OSP?
kathy and i have gone back and forth about this, and im still unsure of what exactly is what.

i ordered a helium which i have, which is sized for a 285. i ordered an OSP 285. i could BARELY fit a badseed menace 280 into my container and was concerned about how the troll 285 = pia 305, and asked about it. she said its NOT 305 square feet, and not to worry. the whole PIA thing is outdated and irrelevant, it was more of an issue back in the day, and she recommended i read up on canopy VOLUME on PD's site as opposed to square footage...........

thats all i know, and it still confuses me. i should have my OSP any day now, and well see how she packs up

you have to order from Morpheus in Atair sizes or else you get fucked it happened to me and many others... she will not resize so if you jump a 240 tell her 225 or a 260 tell her 245 or else it will be wrong

Re: [wasatchrider] Sizing of the OSP?
yeah, when i ordered my helium i made the mistake of telling her it was for a blackjack 280, which i was planning on buying, and guess what i got. a helium built for a troll 285............sigh.
so i did in fact order an OSP 285, because i am a fat fuck who drinks too much, so it ended up working out.

Re: [TransientCW] Sizing of the OSP?
check this manual on page 10:
http://basetroll.com/pdf/ospmanual.pdf

a osp285 is pia 301.
if there is missunderstandings with manufactures, you might better ask for the packing volume, witch you find on this chart too? just check with atair first if its cubic-inch or cubic-cm, i'm not sure about that.

Pretty sure they go as small as 525lb Dacron which I wouldn't necessarily call heavy Dacron.

Oh, okay. I was under the impression that you can get the Light OSP with either lineset (similar to the Light Troll) but apparently not.

Re: [maretus] Sizing of the OSP?
Adrenaline is offering the OSP on their website with Vectran lines also.

I have switched from Trango 265 to light OSP 265.
I am still using the Razor and Apex TLs containers made for the Trango 265 now with the OSP 265 with 525 Dacron lines.

I only see a slight increase in packing volume, absolutely no difficulty fitting the OSP in them.

Is it recommended for slider up jumping only with vectran? Or for slider down also?

not all line set variations are offered on the website, but you can have them on request as far as i know.

Stane said the Vectran OSP Lite is only for slider up. Pretty sure they also recommend the "Slow Slider" for that configuration.

Re: [Fledgling] Sizing of the OSP?
When you first see the slow slider it looks like a slapped together solution, but that thing really works well.

hey walter can you tell me more about opening characteristics comparing these canopies? is the osp-slowslider system soft enough to pull at fullspeed-tracks?
Shortcut
Re: [elex] Sizing of the OSP?
I am not doing terminal tracks, only occasionally a sub terminal track.

I am jumping the OSP on all wingsuit jumps - Prodigy 2, Ghost3, Aura, V4.
You may put the Prodigy in the big tracksuit category.

I am using the standard big mesh slider, single stow, no direct slider control, I don't roll the nose.
Up to now I didn't feel the need to change to a fine mesh or slow slider.

The openings are faster and a bit brisker than with a Troll.
I had hard openings on the OSP, but I had an occasional hard opening on the Troll too.
Heading performance is identically.

The Trango 1 and 2 - I did not jump the Trango 3 yet - open a lot more comfortable, I hadn't had a really hard opening with a Trango up to now.
When in doubt I prefer a fast determined opening to a slow and comfortable one.

Doing 5 WS jumps with the OSP in the Valley does not leave me sore for the next day.

Hey Michi,

you know it exactly as well as I do that Walter is a MACHINE and the above sentence doesn´t prove anything to us normal middle aged guys. Walter is hard core. Even his wife thinks so. :)

I have the opposite experience. In 2005 I ordered a Gargoyle (container size 4) to fit a 280 Blackjack, and it packs up like a brick; it would have been much nicer to pack if the container were one size larger. When I ordered my Helium I asked for the same container size, and it fits my 260 Blackjack perfectly.

Ive got an OSP Lite (though with normal dacron lines, using it slider up and down) and packing wise, it does seem to pack a bit larger (not just the difference in lines) compared to my Trange 2 of the same size. But its a minimal difference, probably more linked to one being brand new, and the other having a couple of 100 jumps already.

Actually more likely that it is the venting and "Slat" that adds the bulk ;-) Like you noticed though it's only minimal. The greatest bulk/weight savings is going to be the use of Spectra over Dacron.

Yea..the OSP shows a small but noticable hump in the bottom part of the rig, compared to the spectra line Trango that was in there....but Id say its less than a 5% increase in total volume if you look at the canopy itself..

Love it for wingsuit..

my OSP 285 packs PERFECTLY in my container, i did not need to touch the closing loops. whew.........that had me concerned for a bit
