Pernille Olafsen in Extreme do not think a ban will stop those who want to jump .

- I understand that they are concerned , but I think that still a no no stop base jumpers from exercising their sport . I think it will be difficult to maintain a ban , she says.

It sounds like the legal event may be backfiring there, if he's asking for national level regulation.

Re: [TomAiello] Want to regulate Base jumping
The legal event is a good database with 15 years, one single broken foot. So, if I understand you right, it is not the legal event that backfire, but prove it can be done safe without serious accident.

also if the jumpers had beacons on them, it could have been another situation, since the stress on the alpine rescue team would have eased, if found quicker with help of helicopter.

Perhaps I misunderstood the article.

The way I read it, the local mayor is asking the national government to regulate all BASE jumping in response to a request to continue including it in the Extreme Sports Week? If that's the case, perhaps it would be easiest to just leave it out of the organized event and continue doing it privately?

Or is the mayor likely to push his request even if BASE is not part of the formal event?

Based on the accidents in Gudevangen the last few years, they have sent a request to the national justice department for them to be able to regulate the sport in Aurland. This would have to be done on a national legal basis so it would affect all BASE jumping. This is done regardless of extreme sports week.

Cant you translate Dunny? Hvordan går det med din Nynorsk?

The article is based on the fact, that they do not want to give heli permit for extreme week, based on the last years accidents, and long complicated search and rescue operations. It is a very small community, and the same volounteer is used every time. This is normal family guys, with ordinary work, so it is not only influence themselves personally, but also their work and employer.

Nope legal event aint back firing at anypoints, BUT our lack of holding up the old words of codex in our sport mean that we atract mor yahoo and jackass persons, as we fail to have the old codex of selfregulating people earning mony in this sport(mainly, but not only) teach 50skydive wonder kids to jump off cliffs Spans etc.

We are no longer selfregulated (= no rules) therefore officials are shutting us down or will force us to make rules in the future.. just wait by time TF, LB and Kjerag will be shut down as legal sites becourse we as jumpers and FJC providors fail to self regulate our self..

Just a simple thing as getting a jumpers background info from the local jumpers fails, wich means that people who aint let into the sport back home becource of lack of whatever skills are given a rig, taught thow to pack and with in 50jumps they all do stowed flippydooes unpacked etc returning to their backyard think they´re gun ho and ruins loads to the rest of us, when they then fail to do their type of jumps off regular underground objects they seek back to large legal sites to preform their shit..

Not only theese places will be hard to restrain opened to jump also the rest of the worlds jumpers get a jack ass stamp on their back..
