how many jumps at potato bridge in a year?
I searched but couldn't find any numbers.

Any good guesses?

Re: [Lemur] how many jumps at potato bridge in a year?
I don't think it's possible to make a good guess at this point.

Back when most everyone rode the boat, we could tally off the boat rides, but it's been many years since that was the case.

It's possible to make 5 jumps in a day and never see someone else who has also made 5 jumps that day here. So I doubt anyone is going to be able to accurately count everyone else's jumps.

Would be cool to place one of those clicker things that tallys numbers on the rail for a year and see how many people click it, although im sure some random people might play around with it to skew the numbers.

It would be more accurate to put it in the landing area. There are a lot fewer random people down there.

Maybe a clicker down at the flag would be better

this would be cool! may need a piece of paper with hash marks for every time that clicker rolls over.

Is the consensus still for raw jump numbers, that Twin is the most BASE jumped. legal object in the world ?

I don't know if there is a consensus.

But since an average jumper can make more jumps here than most easy, legal sites, I'd guess yes. There are some pretty high traffic sites in Europe, but they're surrounded by other exits so any individual one probably doesn't get as many total jumps.

Re: [TomAiello] how many jumps at potato bridge in a year?
There is no documented numbers proof any where that I know to back 'consensus' .
The people I mention it to all seem to think/agree that Twin has to annually hold the highest amount of BASE jumps #'s off . (imho) No Event BASE jump or any other BASE object can compare to raw yearly Exit #'s as Twin .
plus It has to be the least technical BASE object in the world . Just on the fact that it is Safe, so relaxing non-stress of legal plus Landing area the size of Rhode Island with a water feature as an Out for a plan-B .
.
edit add.
It would be real interesting if a 'real' documented tally of annual jumps made could be kept for twin but that would a hell hard job to accomplish . But if done I think it would be untouchable . even now I think it is a little slower than the past years for gangbanging that bridge

Ask someone at the NSA to keep count for a year.

I've never worked on it, but you could have sensors registering the acustic signature of a deploying parachute. It would produce very accurate numbers. It would allow you to plot jump rate over time as well, determining busiest time of day, most active weekend, &c. R&D and maintenance would be a high cost in terms of time, but a hobbyist or two could do it.

A manually incremented counter at the landing site sounds like a good way to do it though. Not as precise, but if the numbers were collected regularly (once a day or so) you would probably notice if someone tampered with the count in an obvious way, and you can get a jumps/day reading too. Jumpers not incrementing the counter would probably produce a slightly lower than actual reading.

Maybe a webcam would work, at least for the day jumps, if there were a way to power it.

I think Outback would have the closest guess.

Re: [sebcat] how many jumps at potato bridge in a year?
not sure the 'audio sensor ' would work . Big Bang on no-slider but slider-up's are pretty soft & there are a lot of slider-ups done there .

Video Memory Cards in a Cam. would be easy to switch-out for a count .
OK, If I lived there . I was thinking even trying a ( series of 'Game Cam's) in-line on lower side-edge of deck .
You actually don't need opening of canopy for a count or a manual punch counter @ LZ .
All you need is a Game-Cam. pic. of a (launch Exit) Body going over the edge for a perfect count .
They are Battery operated & High Res. - NV pics. for night jumps & priced sweet also for even high quality units .
only flaw is that you would get a number of bird fly-by's to sift through but that's about it . It would be accurate for BASE # jump count .

Re: [Lemur] how many jumps at potato bridge in a year?
I haven't any real specific numbers but can mention a few trends you are welcome to question. I walk the rim trail and watch jumpers yearlong. I feel the numbers are greater this year than in previous years. While still a minority, I feel I've seen more female base jumpers this year than previously. Numbers lasted longer into the fall this year. First jump courses and weather surely helped that. More from Australia this year than before. Busier times extended into weekdays more than in previous years. Other than the two yearly more special events, the most I noticed was about 30. Winter has a few locals and a few arrivals
mostly from Utah if the weather is decent. (excepting the current situation of snow flurries and freezing temps). In conclusion, whatever the specific numbers are, I feel this year was busier than the previous 4 years I have observed.

Here's some information about game cameras; range, battery life, etc.

Way over on the other side of the world, we'd have a better idea of how many, if someone would kindly, stealth ninjaly, climb up and turn this webcam around towards the right, so we got more view of the bridge (and the jumpers) to the right, than the empty view of the canyon to the left, which takes up (wastes) about one third of the shot.

I was hoping to go back next year and do it myself but that's probably not going to happen Frown

I have lots of questions, but not for you.... considering Tom and Apex probably have more combined student jumps in a year than that.

Perhaps his point was it doesn't matter too much. Unless you need some numbers for your media coverage, vimeo, YouTube, and other whitish activities.
