Question for Switzerland resident - Health Insurance.
Hi,

I'm moving to Switzerland tomorrow and have a question for those living there.
I need to get a health care plan and I was wondering if I need to look for a specific one that covers BASE or can I get any of them as it would be part of the minimum mandatory cover that they need to provide?

Many Thanks,
Sean

will you be working in Switz ?

In a very simplified manner, we basically have 2 separate insurances concerning health.

one which is the mandatory and generally individual "Illness insurance" which will take care of what is illness/sickness related

the other which is your "accident insurance" which your employer pays for you, provided you are employed. Most insurances cover BASEjumping as almost all sports.

Unfortunately the accident insurance (SUVA) in Switzerland will cut the payments at minimum 50 % if the accident was BASE related. They usually pay 80% of your salary if you have an accident but as base is seen as a high risk activity you will at maximum get 40% of your salary. And it is very hard to find an insurance which covers the other 40%...
