G-spot is one of the more forgiving jumps in the area.
I have only been up G-spot a few times but I do not think of "forgiving" and "G-spot" in the same sentence usually. Even by Moab standards. I think the total height above the road, vis a vis the relatively short time to impact, has potential to give one a false sense of security. Subconsciously, if not consciously. Paradoxically, posing a specific kind of risk on an otherwise very asthetic exit point that admittedly does have other forgiving elements to it.
I gather that this jumper had plenty of local experience and I'm sure he knew the risks of this jump. But even experienced jumpers/airmen can be susceptible to natural illusions. I am not even going to speculate that's what happened in this case, but I take it as a reminder of what I may be susceptible to, myself.
The lesson I think I draw from this, is a tragic reminder that at 320', (or whatever it exactly is) there can be no wasted movements. It is still a "low" jump in my book-- the amazing canopy ride is purely bonus.
Condolences and respect to the jumper and those at the scene.
