Quote from facebook, "Cause of death: G-Spot exit, head high launch, mis-pitch, fatal impact at line stretch."
RIP :(

maybe i didnt make myself clear enough; i'm sorry if that came over as disrespectful.

i intended to say, that me personally, i would have jumped that handheld and not stowed. 100m is my limit.

Re: [virgin-burner] Moab Fatality G-Spot
G-spot is one of the more forgiving jumps in the area. People jump it stowed regularly. I go stowed with my 42 every time. (And I tend to think that I am a very conservative jumper.)

A lot of people choose to go handheld and there is also a bolt for static lines at the exit. I've seen a number of unpacked jumps there as well. Tards, rollovers, foot launching a BASE Canopy(Mario), speedwing, para-wing. I have never heard anyone teasing each other for their choice of deployment methods but then I don't jump with immature assholes either.

Condolences to all. You mark cause as "mis-pitch" can you explain any further?

Re: [cloudtramp] Moab Fatality G-Spot
Any details Known? Did he slip on Exit? I know there is snow on the ground there. Was he attempting something unusual or other then normal for himself?

The above News link only speaks of unstable body position from exit, and a Missed PC Attempt.

Something else must have happened that created these unfortunate circumstances.

I have only been up G-spot a few times but I do not think of "forgiving" and "G-spot" in the same sentence usually. Even by Moab standards. I think the total height above the road, vis a vis the relatively short time to impact, has potential to give one a false sense of security. Subconsciously, if not consciously. Paradoxically, posing a specific kind of risk on an otherwise very asthetic exit point that admittedly does have other forgiving elements to it.

I gather that this jumper had plenty of local experience and I'm sure he knew the risks of this jump. But even experienced jumpers/airmen can be susceptible to natural illusions. I am not even going to speculate that's what happened in this case, but I take it as a reminder of what I may be susceptible to, myself.

The lesson I think I draw from this, is a tragic reminder that at 320', (or whatever it exactly is) there can be no wasted movements. It is still a "low" jump in my book-- the amazing canopy ride is purely bonus.

Condolences and respect to the jumper and those at the scene. Frown

Fatal Fall for BASE Jumper

Story Highlights
Daniel Moore recognized by friends as a “positive light”

Now this may be the first well written news article about a base incident I ever read.

This should be a model for other journalists.
Good job Kristin Millis.

RIP Daniel Moore. After reading the article it sounds like we need more people who lived like him.

I met the editior of Moab sun and author of this article the other day after landing from a jump in Moab. She had a son who died una rappelling accident a year or so ago in Moab. Where most parents would immideately vilify the sport, she accepted it as something he loved and could never condemn it.

She has an extremely positive outlook on all adventure sports including BASE and just wants to see people out living their lives and not harming others.

I look forward to working with her on an article in the near future about opening up some more legal sites in the US

Re: [basehoundsam] Moab Fatality G-Spot
It looked like he ran off in a sit with a very slight backwards rotation. He rolled the windows a couple times then reached to pull. He was already at a solid gspot delay when he made a pc attempt. He did not extract his pc and rolled the windows again. He made a second pc attempt and had a clean toss. He impacted at or just after line stretch. It's also possible his canopy completed the initial opening shock immediately before hitting the ground. I wasn't watching the details too closely at this point. I would venture he died on impact. RIP Daniel. Your smiling face is missed by all.

skip to 42:30. that is a mis pitch. not a deal breaker off a 500 foot object but obviously can cost you your life off g-spot. granted im not sure if thats exactly what happened to daniel but imagine missing your PC like that off something low..........DONE

I just removed a bunch of off topic discussion about a press report that wasn't even related to this incident.

Apologies to those whose on topic replies got removed, and feel free to post them again. They were all linked together and I don't have the time to sort them out and put pieces back up right now.

Let's try to keep this on topic, please.

do you know if the plan was a normal stable jump or was he trying a aerial?
