Sedona Incident Nov 11, 2013
Hearing rumors of a BASE incident on Monday November 11, involving a rescue by local emergency responders. Nothing in the news but a couple of posts on Facebook. Based on photos posted by someone involved in the rescue, looks like a cliff strike approximately midway on a 900' exit.

With Sedona being designated as wilderness in areas with likely exit points, I would expect the local Forest Service Rangers to be keeping an eye out for "violators"

I live in the area and am responsible for opening/reopening many of the exits in the Sedona area. I haven't heard of anything like that but am in the process of contacting jumpers I know in the area, I'll post back when I find out more.

Just wanted to add a clarification.

Per a local liaison to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), "there is no actual provision in the CFRs that prohibits parachuting (BASE or otherwise) into designated wilderness areas. Therefore we (the Forest Service) are looking into what, if anything, we can do."

Someone [qualified, local] embrace these guys and get them onto our side of a decision before they opt to go full-bore the other way.

an opportunity for a BASE jumper volunteer project for cleaning up the area would be really nice right now.

This is in the works. I intend on being a liaison with the local BASE community and the USFS. We have connections through a co-worker who has been very active in keeping existing, and creating new, mountain biking trails. Since we have a vested interest in keeping sites accessible, as well as approaching it from an emergency response standpoint, the local AHJ has been very open to creating dialog.

Re: [Jello] Sedona Incident Nov 11, 2013
an organized effort is in the early stages to create a relationship with local BASE jumpers in the area and the NFS here in Sedona. As a courtesy, I ask jumpers passing through the area, to try and make contact with local jumpers such as myself. This will help us figure out whats going on in the area before people start raping it. I'd be more than happy to show some people some of the WONDERFUL exits in the area given the right circumstances. Any questions about how its going down here or if you want to help us establish a relationship with the NFS feel free to PM me!

Thanks
