Re: [outrager] Sibu fatality, 20.09.13
This is wrong. While we were in Sibu it was reported to us that he passed away, only to find out the next day that it was miscommunication between two people who did not speak English very well, but did not speak the same language. French and Malay

Re: [outrager] Sibu fatality, 20.09.13
Yves was transported to a hospital in Kuching where he was put under observation for his injury. The report that he had passed away was a false one as Lonnie mentioned. The last report I received a couple of days ago from our local organisers in Sibu was that Yves was recovering and hopefully soon to be flown home. I am still waiting for reports closer to the source to confirm his latest condition.

Re: [outrager] Sibu injury, 20.09.13
Yves is a good friend of mine. I was inform first that he was dead!!! Then I have contacted Lonnie who was in Sibu and he told me he was not dead. I found information on a local newspaper there that said He was bring to hospital with serious injury at his head. About what I know Yves had jumped with too much wind as other jumpers told him to not! He was not wearing an helmet as his many other bad habits...
I've contacted his family and Yves has gone out coma now and he is talking a little and will be back in France on this Monday.
I am very sad and furious to have some friends injured due to so bad and stupid ways of jumping!!!
Take care... but I will kick some ass Wink

This this what you know or what you think or what you want to believe?
On the night of Yves jump there was a slight cross wind (maybe slightly away from the building) blowing from left to right. I was packing at the time of the incident so it could have changed a bit from when I jumped maybe 10 minutes prior. I did not notice any change on the ground during his incident. In vision I have seen of his jump one flag at the exit point as he launched off is seen to be hanging straight down with the tiniest flutter (flag still hanging straight down).
How much wind do you think (or know) is too much? Often a bit of wind blowing toward a wide open landing area can make it a much safer jump. Maybe you can PM me the name of the jumpers who may have told him it was too much wind on that particular jump so they can give me better details of what they saw. Or maybe you can tell me more about what you know (or think).

It is compulsory to wear a helmet at the event. Yves was wearing a frap hat and I agree we should have made him wear a hard shelled helmet. We will be better specify requirements in future for those that try to get around the helmet/knee pad requirements.

Stupid is open to interpretation.
Most people say BASE jumping at all is stupid. There can be a very fine lines between what some may say is sensible BASE jumping and what others call stupid. I don't think Yves was anywhere near crossing a clear thicker line of what I call stupid, but my interpretation of stupid may be very different from yours.

Some people are very sad and furious about what some say are "bad or stupid" things people post online about what they think they know. But raw emotion will lead many to do that.

From vision I saw Yves did a good exit. His canopy opened on heading. For unknown reasons his canopy slowly turned towards the building after opening. He could have had a tension know or line twists or a brake off or any number or reasons you may like to speculate about. He hit the building once which flung him around a bit. I can see in some vision his arm is down low, like he has buried a toggle and his canopy turn away from the building. He was still facing the building after his canopy turned away from it so he may have been spun into line twists when he it the building. After his canopy turned away from the building he crashed into a tree.

From the limited information and vision I currently have, for now I feel he did a good jump, had some issue on opening and fought it hard to correct it. I don't think wind played any factor in his incident.

Other than wearing a frap hat instead of a hard shelled helmet, what are you saying is bad and stupid?

Re: [Gary_C] Sibu injury, 20.09.13
Gary,
I don't want to argue with you here because it is not the place, wind or not, helmet or not, stupid or not.

I was not there, I've tried to have some informations as I done for an other good friend Hubert. Yes it is very difficult to find the truth because some say one thing an other the opposite, at the end you know that he is alive and this is the main.

For the rest everyone do what he wants in BASE, caution and safety are personal way of mind.

Since the beginning of this year I have lost 1 good friend, I knew 3 others (as Mark) and 2 others good friends were badly injured (Yves and Hubert) I am glad that there are still alive... but I am just fed up that time, sorry if you find my comment hard guys! I am sad because sometimes you see something and you know that one day it will be wrong...

I'll pm you.
Take care, best

Back here to give you some news from Yves.
After 2 month in Hospital (1 in Malaysia + 1 in France) Yves just go out now and back at his home with his wife. He has just some little memory troubles but he is in perfect well being and with a steal mind as ever.
He knows that he was very lucky in his accident, some body protections had worked well (except helmet) and the tree and parking roof had slowed his fall on ground too. He was very good taking in charge in all 3 hospitals in Malaysia were his was put in coma for his bad brain injury.
Now he is going to enjoy his rest until Christmas.
Thank you everybody and specialy Gary and Lonnie for your support.
Happy End!
Take care.
