Brevent
Hello everyone, Since the 15th of September 2013, the Brevent lift will be closed for a few weeks. We would like to take this opportunity to make an assessment after the reopening of the site since early July.
At first glance, it appears the situation of sharing the site with the paraglider pilots has been quite positive. They have adapted to sharing the airspace, during the designated time periods, without major incident.
However, despite all the good will demonstrated at the Brevent, there are two negative points that require mentioning:
First, there were 2 fatalities. The first, perhaps due to flying close to terrain in adverse afternoon conditions and the second due to lack of proper experience. Whatever the reasons, it is certain that these accidents could have been prevented. However, this is not inherent in the Brevent ...
Secondly, there is an important point that should be mentioned in regards to the negotiated time table. It has been noted that these allowed times have not been fully respected. Know that it is impossible to jump in secret at the Brevent. Paragliders, elected officials, the resort employees, all eyes are on us even when jumping outside the allowed times. It is critical to follow the general regulations to ensure the sustainability of jumping at this site, and in rest of the Chamonix valley. In addition, for the public, the Brevent has become one of the key windows into our sport. Our actions are a reflection our credibility, we as practitioners of this sport.
Finally, please keep in mind, the office of the Association of Paralpinisme and its members have worked very hard to make the Brevent a legal site. Respect the rules, but also respect all the work that was done this year.
A meeting with all respective stakeholders should take place shortly to reflect on this season, and make adjustments if necessary.
We will keep you informed.
Bons sauts
