BREVENT France : French association of "paralpinisme" communicate
Hello, The association of paralpinisme does not hide his great concern following the last fatal accident at Brevent, occurred only after 3 weeks of reopening. The spot Brevent opened in June 2012, was banned very quickly after several accidents including one fatality. For a year, the association in collaboration with others people have worked so hard to get permission to jump with restricted conditions. Beyond the time limits and other requirements slots, one must consider that there is a moral contract to follow: jump in security not to draw attention to this very spot media-exposed.
Unfortunately, we see that this is the least of concern for some. The last accident is particularly revealing. Like last year, accident late afternoon.
This year, it was the fourth jump, and wil lingness to fly very low in poor wind conditions and ill-suited to this type of practice (one board member was present on site).
The association of Paralpinisme does not judge those that want to play beyond the reasonable (flying so low that the head passes but not feet). At each setting its limits. Benevolence of the authorities, already heavily undermined by leaps made in the forbidden Mont Blanc in July (needle side of Chamonix) area, could not last much longer.
We believe it is in our interest to limit the jumps only niche in the morning to the end of the summer, and keep a reasonable margin of safety at height, while respecting the rules of the bylaw.
Obviously this does not prevent all problems, but will significantly reduce the risk. It is not to punish serious practitioners but to preserve our interests.
Even if it is binding for the majority of advocating a restriction, it also prevent some fatalities, and it is always saved many lives.
