I was just curious what y'alls opinions were for the best all around canopy between a vented troll or vented flik? thanks

There should be some threads already posted on the differences between these canopies that you can search using the bar on the top right; however, my friend that got into jumping with me has a 5/7 troll, I have a 4/7 flik, and we've done a lot of various jumps together so I'll put in what I've seen.

Noticeable difference: Flik seems to have lower glide and is suited well for deep-brake approaches; whereas the troll seems to have a better glide.

Noticed for our jumps but not statistically significant with small data: Flik seemed to open faster on terminal A / slider-up openings and the troll seemed to open faster on static-lines. This was a very small difference but pretty constant (if not every time) on our jumps together.

For all around use, I'd personally rank the canopies in this order:

1) Blackjack
2) OSP
3) Flik Vtec
4) Troll MDV

Is there a particular reason you've picked out the Flik and Troll as your top 2 choices?

No, I am not set on anything canopy wise that has just been the two I have been looking at, and I really like the summit container

I recently sold (as the dealer) an OSP Lite in a Summit to one of my incoming students. The Summit had some cool custom features (like Black Stainless he had sent from UPT to Apex).

I was tempted to "lose" it in transit.

yes, that is why I was thinking a flik because I know they do the container and canopy packages. I also like the color coded line tabs on the flik

Morpheus Tech. does packages as well.
I'd suggest looking at the Gargoyle or Helium with Troll as an option.
About $2,500 for the package with a 5 week wait time.

Troll appears to flare like a skydiving canopy and has much better glide. It's sweet for swooping in but it can also be a problem with trying to bring the canopy straight down in a tight spot. But this is why canopy skills/control are/is important...

I have the color coded tabs and really like them, I also have the magnet bridle which people have given me a hard time over but I really rate it

The difference between equipment in base is narrow. The difference in customer is HUGE ! I personally would only order again from one of these companies.

5 week is more like 12 week late at the best.

I had the oppurtunity to jump a flick 266 and a troll 245 (260) the same night, in the same conditions, off the same obj 30min apart from eachother.
230 freestander,handheld, go n throw. I own the troll.
this is my opinion from one jump on the flick: they both open about the same height but upon popping the brakes I noticed a substantial surge on the flick compared to the troll.
I also prefer the troll for the flare, it seems to have more lift than the flick. I covered more ground under canopy on the troll also.

Most likely this has to do with the DBS, not the canopy design. $0.02

I ended up buying a second rig and made it an Apex DP with a FLiK. The customer service was fantastic and I was kept updated during the whole build. I absolutely love my DP & FLiK, just gorgeous and such a nice fit.

Also, 3/7 vents to me just feels like THE combination for my style of jumping.

It's been since April 1 since I have paid for my Helium/Troll (not ordered, but paid) and I still am not sure when I am going to get it. It is a great price, but it has been taking forever. Pretty much all BASE manufacturers are like that right now during the busy season. It is not fair to tell anyone 5 weeks unless it is Apex.

Be careful of information like this. The troll has better glide than the flik? Hmm...The troll has similar flight characteristics to the Mojo, which was notorious for not-so-great glide but amazing sinking in power for tight landing areas. The fLik is much more sporty, as it was designed to be, and definitely would be more of a "swooper" than the troll. In fact the troll turns very flat due to it's less aggressive shape than the flik.

P.S. I have about 250 jumps on a flik and 20 on 3 different trolls and a couple on a mojo. I can tell you the flik opens faster than all 3 trolls that I have jumped, but that is probably due to the difference between the vtec vents and MDV style vents.

The exact same thing happened to my friend who ordered a helium/troll combo way back. He was held up for almost triple the quoted lead time. When I ordered my Hybrid/Troll through Adrenalin, I got it when planned.

Absolutely no point and no practical usage in BASE environment but sure is fun and of course a nice show off. :D The canopy is DW Troll 265, I weigh about 78kg sans gear.

I had two friends remove theirs.

One picked up a metal spike in a landing area and did some damage to the canopy while stashing.

The other accidentally popped a pin when the magnet stuck to the hand rail at the exit point as he was climbing over.

It can definitely be handy, but I'd want one that was removable (like the apex version) from the bridle. I've seen some others (Bad Seed, I think?) that are permanent.

I've honestly never seen a BASE canopy swoop even close to a Se7en. It's not my favorite (stall point is high so it can be hard to sink in, for example) all around BASE canopy, but if you want to swoop a BASE canopy, find a Se7en with a ZP front third.

Why would the magnet side be on the bridle instead of the container? Sounds like a flaw.

Again, sounds like a design flaw being that the very nature of the second strongest known force in the universe is attracted to any other farromagnetic metal, why not put something other than another magnet in the one piece of a rig that ends up combing the ground on every single jump? Facepalm

I hadn't really thought about it and I was unaware of the second strongest force, I will take it out and put a piece of metal in there.

As I was, I think its the 3rd strongest force...but maybe not. Still...Strong force (1) and weak force (2 or 3) are both Nuclear forces. Either way, my point is you only need one magnetic for magnetism to work. So why put the actual magnet on the bridle?

lol, there are stronger magnets and better metals. Its not my theory, its the laws of physics. Nice first step into having more awesome gear though.

Yup. I have one jump on a Seven. Stalled the fuck out of it above a shitty lz on a super dark night trying to sink it in. Let my arms up and recovered just in time to "land" on some comm-lines which I think broke my fall. Good times! Still want to jump one during the day and see what it can do.

As far as Troll v Flik- it seems like most people vote for what they own :) So I guess I will say buy a BJ and a FOX

Harddrives has some real good magnets.
They are oddly shaped so you might need to trim it to make it look decent.

If you have a old harddrive that gave up on you, just open it up and grab that.

I agree. People have strong opinions for the gear they personally jump, plus many jumping crews have sort of "grown" into jumping certain gear. Also, geography often plays a big role into what people are using.

For instance, I bet here in Europe Atair has +70% of the market. Not because they are somehow totally superior, but they are local and proven to be a great company with good, innovative products. Why go further if you have that next door. Same goes for Apex, CR and Asylum across the pond.

My personal opinion:

I've owned both fliks and trolls, all vented.
I prefer Troll.
Easy to pack, folds itself just by looking at it.
Better heading on openings.
Better glide and deep brake aproaches.

FliK is good, but notorious hard opener.
