Finally, dream conditions on a 2k' A!
Hey guys. Not wanting to share the jump as much as the crazy weather conditions. The cloud base that day was predicted to be low but I couldn't have dreamed it'd turned out so perfect. Camped and woke up at 4:30am to climb it. The A has 9 wires. Clouds began around wire 2ish (maybe as high as 3 sometimes) but stopped very suddenly at wire 8. This meant that I got to climb up into and through the clouds Angelic.

Cool!
I have done a few jumps like this and yes they are awesome!
One that stands out especially was when I was on a tower at night with a full moon. The clouds were at around 800-1000ft. On the ground it was dark and gloomy but above the clouds was spectacular. The full moon illuminated the tops of the clouds like it way daytime and the only other things visible were other towers in the distance poking through the white sea. it was like a city in the sky. Incredible visuals before and during the jump.

One thing to be wary of when you are climbing the base of the clouds may have lowered in the time it takes to get to the top. Which may cause an issue if you were expecting them to be at 700 and they end up being at 300!

I cant imagine how awesome it'd look with good moonlight at night! During the day, with no other A's nearby, it felt like something from jack and the beanstalk.

"Eh, little to the left."

Nice jump, and video. Lack of music, right choice.

PM sent. I've only found one person once that would climb a 2k A w/ me. Is this just the lazy people of the SE or is it normal that not many people would climb a 2k A? All that freefall is too much fun to pass up Smile

I'm surprised you don't! Those things are everywhere! Guessing you've already checked the FCC's ASRegistration database. I don't know what I'd do without my terminal As Sly

Our crew does it two or three times a week... but, most of us have come from a rock climbing background.

Nice jump!

That's awesome. I would love to have people to climb these things with 2x a week! I can only manage to get psyched enough to do it every other week or so (the solo climb doesn't bother me at all...it's the solo 2.5 hours drive, 1 hour hike through woods, camping, and waking up at dawn to jump it that drives me Crazy. It has some heat on it so I have to do that to be safe). I wanna do one twice in a day soon. Gonna see if I can find some people interested (most will likely jump from halfway or lower lol)

We recently did three trips up our 1,100-footer in one day. The splits were pretty funny.

Climb 1: 29 minutes
Climb 2: 27 minutes
Lunch and re-pack rigs
Climb 3: 46 minutes

(To be fair, the winds were changing as climb 3 began, so we were pausing quite a bit to evaluate the jump during our climb. But we were still pretty fatigued.)

I have climbed 1050 rungs several times, sadly it
takes me somewhere between 45 and 120 minutes.
1100' in 27 minutes carrying 30 pounds is impressive!

We're both fitness nerds, so we had that going for us.
But it didn't prevent our forearms from burning by the 3rd climb.

You probably already know this... but, the straighter your arm, the less it burns. Wink

Hah, I probably take 45ish up a 1000' and 2.5 hours on a 2000'. But I rarely get out of breath and have the same pace the whole time. 27 minutes for 1000' is damn fast...
Shortcut
Re: [Zebu] Finally, dream conditions on a 2k' A!
i think we have different deffinitions of same pace

1000' 45min
2000' 1.5 hours not 2.5 :)

One pace for a 1000' and another for a 2000'. I haven't timed it in a while so maybe its less for 2000' now...but it doesn't matter. I don't ever hurry up them.

Re: [Zebu] Finally, dream conditions on a 2k' A!
I haven't climbed a 2,000' one yet. We've been talking about a road trip to another part of the state, where a couple of those things live...

I'm packing a lunch.
