Wind turbine PSA
Managed to befriend a Wind Farm manager here in texas (we had a brief conversation). He knew I was jumper. Anyways, he gave me a bit of insight that I just thought I would pass along to the community. Feel free to add more info if you have it.

They do have alarms on the entire structure, so he said he knows as soon as the door is opened, the latch it opened, the turbine is powered down, etc.

It also costs them around $1000 every time a turbine is stopped. I don't know if this is only for emergency stop or general stops, he did not specify.

Just things to think about next time you want to jump one. Cheers

That's interesting. We opened one up and jumped it while it was running (never stopped), hung out around it for quite some time, and even had a one-way long hike out but never ran into anyone. Then again...it was annoying as **** to get to. Thanks for the info!

I can say first hand it's ALWAYS a bad idea to stay at an object after the jump. Go somewhere else for a while at the least. There's always some asshole out there that'll call the cops or not see the canopy open and think it was suicide. And never listen when your friends wanna pack at / stick around the object Wink

This might be one of those things that shouldn't be discussed publicly on the Internet. Anything said by individuals in a thread like this could be used against us all as a group, and it might provoke unwanted attention to this type of object from different interest groups (owners, builders, architects and so on).

Obviously this is a specific kind of turbine, isolated case. All four turbine farms I have been to and jumped have not had alarms on any hatch or door. There are emergency shut down switches that trigger alarms, but I have not seen any access alarms.

While it is not always easy to tell if a door is alarmed before you open it, the presence of an alarm mechanism is usually very obvious once the door is opened.

I also have not come across a turbine door with an alarm.
