Russia tower strike
for those of who know stans the crazy russian who helped Rob get of thailand. he had an incident himselth this week and needs simehelp getting to better health care,
In reply to:
had a base accident. Was filming Jay's jump on the hooks from the low antenna, he pushed not too strong, so to keep filming i had to jump too close to antenna itself, bad idea, i had 180, hit the antenna, fell to the ground. I am alive and trying to keep being positive, leg is broken in 2 parts, need to make the operation to put titanium pins inside the broken bones. Eat a lot of painkillers and hope to continue working on our plans for this summer. All jumps we planned we are still planning to do, don't worry. Also, i will need now all my friends to give me a hand and support me if you can-i am in a small shitty clinic far from Moscow, with only 3 doctors here. need transportation, operation and aftercare. Tomorrow will give more information about what happened. The main thing:the challenge is still running. Everything will be fine. Miss you all buddys! Jump again soon.

In reply to:
ease, share this if you can

i need your help, friends. i am broken after a base accident, while i was filming the jump on the hooks and had strike the antenna with 180 opening (70m, going stowed and jumped very close to antenna to film better, stupid). i have a serious brake of the hip (need to make operation soon), broken heel, some knee injury and brain concussion (this is not serious). i am russian, so the pain is not too strong, but my problem is that i cannot get up from the bed and will not be able to work at least 1 month. i need to make expensive operation, after it - to spend 2 wore weeks of recovering here in the hospital and transport myself back to Moscow. shit happens, but that means that something cool will happen soon too :)
collecting money for everything now and i want to ask all my friends: if you have a possibility, help me please to go through this situation more easy than it could be. you can use my PayPal account to support me:

Re: [hcsvader] Russia tower strike
Thanx but no thanx....

It's called INSURANCE, buy it next time.

Someone recently (last year) did the same thing. Turns out they went to Malaysia recently jumping.

Sorry your broke up. Heal fast and best of luck.

You say "I'm Russian so the pain is not too strong"
Then the bill shouldn't be a problem. Sly

Im sure the guy is a good dude, problems with your statement. we dont owe him shit! did he help the other guy so that when he gets hurt he would get help himself? is this a BASE jumping insurance company that we have going now? if he knew how expensive and hard it is to get out of a shit area why didnt he properly prepare financially?

on the other side, sucks taht he got hurt, glad he is being positive, and good luck.

Re: [REDAKTOR] Russia tower strike
F Y I - 70 meters is approximately 230 feet

I agree, stowed from this altitude is dicey!

not exactly a 2 way in the traditional way haha. They were doing freefall suspensions. So Stans was following the person suspended from ropes.

Re: [hcsvader] Russia tower strike
Ok, I have watched the video and read his account of what happened. I don't agree with his analysis. He first puts blame on the other person by saying that they didn't push hard enough then he says that, by bad luck alone, he had a 180. He stated that he almost had the canopy turned before the strike which it seems to me that there was no real progress in turning away from the object. Also, his statement about trying to turn and land after the strike doesn't seem to be accurate because he seems to be unconscious.
Usually when things go wrong you can follow a chain of events that lead up to the accident. From what I see, things that may have contributed to this incident include but are not limited to:
- Doing a 2 way with an inexperienced person in order to make them feel safe
- going stowed
- poor push
- attempting to get video (may alter good body position)
- jumping into a possible headwind (looks like from the PC trajectory)
- improper or no DBS
- blown toggle (may not be completely unstowed but it seems the velcro is not attached)- gear maintenance

If people do not want to repeat this accident then it is important to objectively evaluate it and be honest with yourself. It seems as though he has not done that and is chalking it up to 'bad luck'. Yes. it was bad luck but other factors also contributed in my eyes.

Also, please STOP smoking while your bones are trying to heal. It significantly slows bone growth and recovery.

He seems like a person who is kind and generous and has his heart in the right place but a big heart may sometimes get in the way of making smart decisions.

Good luck in your recovery!

Re: [hcsvader] Russia tower strike
Considering how low he opened, it seems he would have still had a very hard landing had he successfully steered clear of the tower.

Is it just me or does any one else think the ringing "Dooong" sound he made when he hit the leg is awesome. I don't know how many bones he sacrificed for my entertainment but I am in his debt. I got a good laugh out of that. May he heal well.

Now, please continue with your thread.

I thought it was pretty awesome too Smile
I would hate to know how hard you have to hit a tower to make it ring like that.

Re: [RiggerLee] Russia tower strike
I've watched someone hit a tower from above, and it made a pretty loud thud and hung him up on the A. I raced down the ladder to find him uninjured. Maybe the difference in walking away verses going to the hospital is thud vs Dooong. CrazyTongueLaugh

I have seen a tower strike (Dooong!) that supports that theory!

Re: [OuttaBounZ] Russia tower strike
The "dooong" most likely has to do with the tower pillar being hollow, with the impact sound resounding a bit.

Is this all to serious? OK, not so serious. We might have heard 2 dooongs if he hit with his head.
