Base 424 just called me with some bad news. He's flying smoke jumpers in Cañon City, Colorado.

It looks like the Royal Gorge Bridge will probably be consumed by wildfires sometime today.

A sad day for all of us.

Many fond memories, and some tragic ones, at that place. Lots of BASE history there, too.

NO! That's not quite what I was expecting based on the thread title.

This is such an epic object. Standing at the rail and looking down for the first time is a moment that I won't forget.

Thats crazy, you would think that they could establish something in the park or on the bridge to prevent it, but those winds are pretty gnarly. Only made it there for the last ever go fast games. First time I ever met Shane Murphy was there. Attempted a lot of new aerials there, but I think just straight flat and stables were my favorite taking it a little deeper than recommended.

Fuck, and theres apparently another fire in the colorado springs area near a great local freestander.

But it would be pretty cool to jump an antenna by firelight I guess....as long as its not too close

Silver-lining: they will rebuild with insurance money and need some new attractions to bring people back to the bridge and park. Post-fire GoFast Games?

There's a lot more parties and elements involved with the decision to end the Go Fast Games at the Royal Gorge than what you just "offered," but in the meantime, here is a new story; place got hit pretty hard, but, contrary to your wishes, neither the bridge itself nor the city burned.

Almost all of the RGB buildings burned, though, including some that go back to the bridge's earliest days....

And really, your hate is misplaced anyway... I put together the Go Fast Games deal, and while the city was a partner to the agreements because the bridge and its associated attractions are on leased city property, the Games ended there for reasons that have nothing to do with its alleged stinginess or alleged greediness.

So you wish great harm to thousands of people and their property because of something you're totally wrong about anyway... and then you whine and cry for mamarator when you get called on it.

48 of 52 structures destroyed in the park. Minor damage to the bridge. It's not over yet but it appears they're getting a handle on it. Will advise.

I assume you are referencing the A in the post you replied to...

The homes on one side are destroyed, the homes on the other (where the horse that tried to kill me lives) survived. I checked the address list and cross referenced the fire burn map. The object was in a grassy area outside of the trees, so the worst it would have had is a grass fire at the base.

Considering the object was designed to withstand a nuclear explosion, and the building next to is made of solid concrete, I bet $100 that the object stands... However I am sad for the folks who lost their homes. (I hope that horse was as scared by the fire as he scared me when he charged me!)

That is what I was thinking... Really sucks that it happened but wasn't sure if it was an apocalypse level fire that would actually take one of those down.

They must be VERY clever designers

Family member in Black Forest confirmed red and white is still standing.( the buildings where meant for nuke, antenna was designed for a 4 day rebuild- incase of direct hit)

wow those rebuild workers must be wearing lead suits 10ft thick

from what i read all longline towers are built to take a nuclear blast from 5 miles away and still be functionable.
