Yes it is the highest jump, yes it is a great job but it is not on Mt Everest! The Rosov jump was on a close mountain, Mt Changtse connect to Everest north edge by North Col.
Saying that he had jump from Everest is a big lack of honesty from Rosov and his partner Redbull.
I like him and his way of mountain flying achievement but it spoils the party.
Tell me that Iam wrong!? Waiting for the real Everest Jump, ski wingsuit BASE perhaps?

Unsure

ps: on Rosov' facebook public main photo (here rosov-everest.jpg) it is easy to see the Everest north edge just behing his way to exit on Mt Changtse. In the video the same, at 0.34 Everest is in front of him.

Drifting a bit from BASE here, but you're saying that in the second photo you linked (rosov-everest.jpg) the mountain in the background is Everest? Wikipedia gives Everest's elevation as 1300 m above Changtse, but I'd never have guessed that big a difference from the photo. If I understand you correctly, I've got a whole new appreciation for the scale of Everest.

Reminds me of the folks who went for a "quick walk across the fjord" on Baffin. Big mountains can really screw with your sense of scale.

Edit: Huh, sure enough... Attached image from Google Earth shows Changtse labelled on the left, and Everest the obvious peak to the right of center. Unreal.

This reminds me of the "Skydive Everest" I did in 2008. It was a super awesome jump and I recommend it to anyone that wants to visit the region but only when we got there did we find out it was really 12 miles or more from Everest! The ride to altitude was as close as we came.

I spent all day today thinking someone had jumped off Everest so it is disappointing to find out it was false advertising. On the other hand it rocks because it means it is still ready for action.

PS. The guys that run Skydive Everest now are WAY better and put on a great package. The region is a-m-a-z-i-n-g and if you get the chance to trek or jump there then spend your life savings...I did.

Yes 1300m more is enormous in mountains and in high altitude, and what you see from ground is very difficult to appreciate. All alpinists know that when you think to arrive to the summit it is not the summit but just one more step under it.
Landing zone of Rosov jump or intermediate camp on Rongbuk glacier is at 6000m, North Col at 7000m, Rosov exit at 7200m and summit of Changtse at 7600m.
Yes it is a bit over BASE but it is not a BASE jump from Everest, and not an exit on Everest too, close yes but not Mt Everest but Mt Changtse. Just a little little, very little detail! Like to be filmed after the landing with the north face of Everest behind. More commercial of course.
Beautiful jump anyway! Wink

RB rules, so of course it was a jump of Chomolunga. Wink They had to make up from the error on the highest base jump claim in 2012 from Shivling. Turned out it was not. Blush Same with the RB wingsuitflying over the Nazca lines. If I see it all good, the plane flies over the lines, not the jumpers. http://www.redbull.com/...over-the-nazca-lines

That said, Valery rocks, and I take my hat off.

text added later: I realize this could be read in a negative way on Valery's feat. That off course is not the intention. We all know - or should know - that things like this can only be done with a sponsor. Unless you are filthy rich, which the average jumper is not. And sponsors generally ask: "what's in for me?" Answer: exposure. And you get good exposure with a special feat. And for special feats you need special jumpers. Ergo: Valery. Again, well done!

60 years ago when Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the top of the world there was no cameras just their words as truth. Today with GoPro in all directions proves that Rosov not jump of Everest everyone applauded because he says he jump from Everest. However jump Everest is much more complex and difficult than Changtse otherwise Rosov would. A cat is not a dog, but you can call a cat a dog ... Everest (Chomolungma) is neither K2 nor Changtse, I want to believe that some have poor notions of geography but it is 2013 not middle age! Just that I find it dishonest and not very sporty to confusion, disrespect those who have conquered the great heights and RB rules is a great show that athletic performance is a shop window, ready to manipulation. I just expect Valery Rosov say yes I jumped the Changtse and not Everest but it will not, too late to turn back.
The show must go on! Cool

I met him several years ago at my hotel in Cheech, he was one of the nicest guys I could imagine. wish I could say that about some of the modern Everest mountaineers!

His most legendary recent feat was to BASE jump from Everest. In 2013 he leapt from Mt Changtse, 7,220m, a subsidiary peak off Mt Everest, successfully making the first wingsuit flight off the mountain.

Re: [cpoxon] HIGHEST BASE JUMP EVER
If he says that he jumped Everest, and indeed did not..and I am including every possible exit that may exist on Everest, then it is a lie.

Sorry, but I grew up a climbing bum, and claiming one mountain and doing another is nigh high treason. The history of Cerro Torre is like that.

I heard that somebody jumped Cerro Torre. Considering the ferocious Patagonian wind with the difficulty of reaching the summit, even in modern times, is quite an achievement.

But claiming that you did something that you didn't is bogus. I don't care how beloved he is.

Re: [BASE104] HIGHEST BASE JUMP EVER
I just watched the video, and it looked like he indeed find an exit on the north side. So maybe it is me who is full of it.

The video seemed very clear. 7200m. Just being fit enough to make it that high is impressive.

Hooray for him, then. He damn sure wasn't hanging out in Twin Falls doing 1 second delays just to pad his logbook numbers.
