Bridge Day Accuracy Competition proposed changes
Hey Base428, what do you think about reverting back to the old (2005-2008) style accuracy comp, with real prizes provided by the sponsors, or signifigant cash? If everyone pitched in 5$ extra ontop of registration thats 2,000$ we could split up..
Whats everyone think?

I'm glad I'm not the only one that came back from Mexico thinking "after that LZ I can win any accuracy comp." :P

Re: [avenfoto] Bridge Day Accuracy Competition proposed changes
sounds reasonable...

how about a swoop accuracy event... Smile

Re: [avenfoto] Bridge Day Accuracy Competition proposed changes
A little history....

The old accuracy contest had an electronic scoring system, requiring additional staff and costs to rent/operate. Only two jumpers hit the accuracy pad each of the last two years. So, is it worth it for me to bring it back for the two people that hit the pad? Probably not. We can visually tell which of those two people came closer to the center........and Bryan is probably writing more about the prizes than the use of an electronic scoring system.

In recent years, we simply have a 30" diameter pad in place. If you hit the pad and remain standing, you win a prize. Keep in mind that for the last several years, we've given away $100 bills and other prizes to anyone who hits the accuracy pad and remains standing. $100 is not bad. I think I set aside $400 in cash (3x $100 and 2x $50 prizes). The goal was to quickly hand them money once they land and clear the LZ as quickly as possible.

I'm happy to kick in some extra cash without charging additional money. However, you guys have to hit the pad! With so few people hitting the pad, I'm not really sure how things can change.

As for sponsors kicking in prizes, many of them already do provide quality products for our contests. I could allocate more of them to the accuracy contest instead of throwing them out to the crowd or giving the "oldest jumper" a free pilot chute. Personally, I think $100 is a good prize for hitting the pad. Perhaps we could move the pad further away from the river where more people land?

So, now that you've read the above, I'm open to suggestions.

For reference, here's the BD accuracy web page: http://www.bridgeday.info/competition.php

Get some bigger front wheels this year, you bad-ass SOB. If you can land on your wheels anywhere in the LZ, I'll let you pick from the prize pool.

SUch a classic photo!

BAD ass is right.

What cracks me up about bridge day is even the best jumpers seem to miss the mark that day. When i was there $100 was offerred if you land stand up style in the target. I dont think anyone managed.

Bridge Day is an incredible event. Epic vibe. Keep it that way and the catapult stuff is way cool. is that open season?

Re: [jtholmes] Bridge Day Accuracy Competition proposed changes
The catapult launch costs extra due to the high cost of the device. Plus, I give the BD Commission a cut.

Which sadly only amounts to 3 jumpers total , since I did it back to back the last 2 years.

Don't give him any more Idea's .
.

edit add:
Accuracy back in like early 90-91 was to go down river & swing right & the pad was kind of in the tree of the LZ.
I think MOST people hosed themselves because it was to easy to to Take-it-Down because of all the Altitude . Then they would short themselves & run out of flytime .
It is just to HARD to have discipline & pull higher on that bridge to give yourself plenty of set-up on the approach .

Well, I'd like to see it moved closer to the water...

Ya know, for those of us who "pull too low and barely make the lz as it is."

Encouraging that style of jumping is irresponsible. Be a good example. I guess a good example of what not to do will suffice, if you prefer.Smile

GRIN

I was expecting a more humorous response... but, serious is fine too.

So we both know what kind of jumps I will be doing at the New each October; which is not irresponsible. Now, someone who has no business even jumping a wingsuit from below 1k ft, does so at the New, most definitely is!

Additionally, if one isn't going to fully utilize the available airspace, and pull "Coco Low"... there is really no point to even jumping one. Yet, I have repeatedly proven one can pull at that height and still make the LZ.

However, if you move the target farther back, I then have absolutely no chance of hitting it...

Therefore, to charge me an extra 5 dollars, but not allow me the ability to even compete... well, one could say, that is "Taxation Without Representation." Wink

And, ah, I'll leave the "examples of what not to do" to others; like 2011...

In China Balinghe this year there was no acc pad, but based on what I saw at least 6 jumpers would have hit it. Possibly more. So, the Balinghe is just a better bridge, ha ha. Tongue
