For those who don't yet know, Valley BASE Gear is a gear store in Lauterbrunnen :-)

From landing cards, closing loops & ripstop to tracking suits, packing mats and Five Ten shoes, we try to stock everything you might need on your BASE trip

We also have a secondhand gear page where you can advertise your stuff for free.

Does anyone have any ideas on things we could stock/things you need while you're here?
We're always up for new ideas on stuff and things that would make your trip easier - let us know?

Not that you really need one, but they are good to have.

Prepaid cellphone cards?

That combined with couple of cheap cell phones to rent would actually be a great idea. We get every now and then comments from foreign jumpers that they do not have a cell phone in LB (or at least are not using it) as the roaming charges are too expensive. I know that it is super easy to get a prepaid card in CH (you can buy one from the post office or from Kiosk) but for the lazy base jumpers out there, I think it would be a good idea if VBG could give you a rental mobile for for example 25chf / week and sell you a prepaid card to it to be able to call AG. At least no one could come and say that mobile was not available.

And you won't be ripped off by a salesperson in the airport telling you "internet is free", or she didn't say free, but it was close to nothing.

It was very expensive to use the internet on that simcard :-)

To be fair to most US jumpers, their own phone is probably locked by the phone company and won't accept another SIM card. I have a bag full of unlocked phones from all over the world, but that's another story. Switzerland isn't really the best place to buy them. Renting them is a great idea.

I would also say condoms, but everyone knows that jumpers don't practice safe sex, so just stock a lot of lube and body oil.

Condoms are right next to cigarettes and pregnancy tests in the vending machine. I think I saw a phone with sim and 10fr credit at the post office for 20 francs.

But you can't rent the condoms in the vendingmachine.

Hmm...phones must be new-ish. I retract my previous statement about phones. I maintain, however, my position about lube and oil, and am grossly disappointed that jumpers are using condoms. I don't know who your mentors were or what kind of crappy FJC you took, but I was taught from the beginning that the only thing that goes between my willie and someone else is lube or spit.

Thumbs up for valley base gear. Was able to pick up some new risers this morning right here in the Valley, didnt have to miss a day of jumping.

Come to think of it, a gloryhole would definitely be appreciated. If you offer free booze and a cool t-shirt to volunteers, I'm sure you'd have no shortage of jumpers willing to play catcher.
