Thank goodness someone FINALLY came up with this!

Finally.

It's a 5 cell parachute that's opens faster than conventional parachutes. Genius. That new backpack system that houses the parachute is amazing.

It really IS about time someone came up with something like that.

I am patiently waiting for the test jump from an actual burning building.

Got the idea from September 11th? Only took him 12 years to copy a velcro rig. I like the PCA in the test video, do you need a second person during a real fire?

Sad part is that he will probably sell thousands of them and make a shit ton of money. Good for him I guess.

My guess is this SOS inventor guy and the mentally-challenged BASE 1361 from the "Moab spray paint the rocks" thread are one and the same.

"Paper...rock...scissors...you lose, hold my bridle, I've got rocks to paint! GOOOD LUUuuuuccck...."

Not sure if serious or the inventor is the smartest scammer on the planet. Good work getting permission to day blaze your building 13 times though. I think I'm going to copy his Shrivel flap on my reactor just to lower suspicion as I try and day blaze buildings while claiming I'm a rep for his company. Wink

Wasn't there another similar invention. Minimal webbing harness with a round parachute and you would static line off of a file cabinet?

I remember seeing it somewhere but can't find it anywhere on Google.
Execuchute or something like that

The Evacuchute, yes.

Emergency "high-rise evacuation" parachutes have come and gone many times over the last few years. If I remember correctly, they all fail to catch on - likely due to low demand and the fact that one landing injury could tarnish the reputation of the entire device.

Apex made one. They created a separate company called Aerial Egress to market them. I remember seeing Anne test it here, and she drifted over into the rocks on the far side of the river. It was certainly better than nothing, but I think a cable/winch system would be a lot more efficient for getting a lot of people out of a high rise.

 Trained to Jump

Jason Bell is an expert "base jumper." He leaps off buildings and other tall objects with the aid of a modified, hand-deployed parachute. Bell has jumped hundreds of times, even though it's illegal to base-jump off of buildings. He said it takes training and experience to base-jump without injury.

"There is no way someone could safely go out and jump from a building without the proper training," Bell said.

John Rivers, owner of Executive Chute, one of the companies marketing parachutes as a safety device, doesn't see training as an issue. He suggests consumers read the directions that accompany the chute.

Thanks for the plug. That piece probably came from an interview shortly after 9/11 where a no name company "Executive Chute" told everyone you need no training to use their product.

If a building is on fire but there is not enough smoke to make a person unconscious they might face the reality of choosing which way to die. As the heat becomes unbearable and you start to burn alive, the only better option of death is a long drop with a quick stop, as seen in the 9/11 footage, I know I would chose that.

If it comes to that situation you don't need any training, any odds better than the 2 options you have will be good enough. I'll take a building strike and injury over certain death any day. I don't think a Ram air is the right way to go though, I still reckon rounds are the more user friendly option.

A zip line is probably the better route to follow

I feel like Strong Ent. tried getting in on the game too. Could be confused though.

Not sure if you guys recognized but the guy speaking on the vid around 1:30 is Carlos who is reasonably well known and experienced Venezuelan base jumper. Not sure what his role in this project is but I´m sure he has nothing against testing and promoting this thing off buildings world wide. :)
