Wingsuit Incident in Utah
To squash the rumor mill...We had a death here yesterday. The family may or may not all know so I ask that you be respectful even if you know who it is. Also, please refrain from posting the name of the site as it is very sensitive at the moment due to numerous accidents in the past couple years.

All that's needed to be known is he was flying a big suit and impacted with nothing out. This place has an insane amount of terrain flying and very minimal room for error. He made 6 jumps or so previous to this one and there was some weird/inconsistent wind, but nothing out of the norm for that area.

Unfortunately I know very little about proximity flying on wingsuits so maybe one of the more experienced pilots that were on the 3 way with him could chime in more. The big picture is pretty simple: Rough terrain, lost glide, unforgiving for mistakes, impact nothing out.

First time I met him was in Yosemite. I was sleeping out of my van as a dirt bag climber. Ran GC for him and another jumper. My brother and I were at El Cap bridge just hang'n with the monkeys......

Gave us a radio and the rest is history.

That "assistance" I gave him shaped my life as it was one of the events that got me into BASE.

Interesting how one simple and small event makes all the difference in the world.

Thanx for the experience..... it was brief, but memorable.

Just saw the article. Damn...In the climbing world he was one of the few who definitely earned his way into the history books. Anyone willing to say whether it was the west wall or north wall?

Funny, one of my early meetings with him was when he ground crewed my brother and I on one of our early, um, hikes, and it was the beginning of his path into BASE. Definitely a charger from the beginning. Rest in peace, Main.
