KL Tower BASE Jump 2013
Quite a few people are starting to ask me about KL Tower BASE Jump 2013. Current event information and some videos from last year can be seen at www.kltowerjump.com

The event will take place from 26th September to 1st October. It will include 5 days of jumping and 2 nights.

Compulsory BASE Jumpers Briefing: Thursday, 26th September
Jumping Days: Friday 27th September to Tuesday 1st October
Night Jumps: Saturday 28th September and Sunday 29th September
The bonus day of jumping on 1st October commemorates the 17th anniversary of KL Tower.

Event Host: Menara Kuala Lumpur
Event Organiser: CD Events
BASE Jumping Organiser: Gary Cunningham, President of Australian BASE Association

Experience Requirements:
Applicants will only be considered once they have completed at least 120 BASE jumps, have made at least 20 BASE jumps within the previous 12 months and preferably have been actively BASE jumping for at least 2 years.

A maximum of 100 BASE jumpers will be selected and invited to participate in the event.

Applications will open in May. Those that want to receive an application form when they become available can email me at garyc71@gmail.com to be added to our mailing list for this years event.

Other Events
Sibu BASE Jump 2013 will take place a week before the KL Tower event.
The management of Gua Damai Extreme Park are also planning a BASE Jumping event, possibly an accuracy competition, for 2 days in between the Sibu and KL Tower events.
Announcements about these two events will be made in the near future.

Gary,

Any recommendations on how to get affordable plane tickets, where to stay, ect?

Does it normally fill up fast and what other things do you take into consideration when choosing jumpers?

Thanks man.

Hello Crash1

For flights there are many online booking sites to find the most suitable flights. I have not searched for flights for people from USA for many years but the website I used at the time was www.orbitz.com. It seemed good at the time but I don’t know how it compares to other flight booking websites nowadays. Depending on exactly where you are sometimes you can find cheaper flights by selecting a multi-city search and trying to route your flights through various hubs. Or just search for cheap flights from some of the major hubs and then find a cheap flight to that hub.

For accommodation I always recommend the Pacific Regency Hotel Suites due to its convenience of being across the road from KL Tower and it is a nice place to stay. There are also many cheaper hotels throughout Kuala Lumpur. One site I like to use to search for these is www.hotelscombined.com which searches for the best deals from several other hotel booking websites.

The event usually fills up a month or two after applications open. Last year we had a record number of applications and the event became very oversubscribed. But we also had a record number of cancellations (almost 50%) so everyone we put on a waiting list ended up getting invited to the event.

Many factors are considered in jumper selection but generally those that meet our minimum requirements, have good decision making, reasonable capabilities and don’t stand out as being a potential problem for us or the event get invited. Those that lie to us or stand out as reckless or disrespectful are instantly excluded. Anyone asking for an exemption to the compulsory safety briefing is also instantly excluded.

Just out of curiousity, how much does it cost to attend this event? Does the cost include all jumps or do you pay per jump?

This year Menara KL will charge an entry fee of RM1250 to participate in the event which includes 5 full days of jumping and 2 nights.

Thanks for the reply. Only slightly more than the cost of a tandem jump in Australia! Incredible :)
