What qualifications does a para-alpinist (cliff jumping) instructor need to posses in order to be competent?
What qualifications does a para-alpinist (cliff jumping) instructor need to posses in order to be competent? Experience? Emergency medical certifications? Rigging experience/knowledge? Teaching qualifications (AFF instructor/Outdoor leadership)? Let me know what you think. What was your learning process like?

I don't want to be too cynical, but from your posting history I'm guessing that you're thinking of creating a Para-Alpinist Instructor rating that people will pay you for even though you don't actually BASE jump.

In the ballpark?

Competence is non negotiable. Screw qualifications on paper. Reality is the determiner.
A lot of what you listed is valid, AFF is not so imporrtant. instructor is in my opinion.
Here is an exercise for you. Create your perfect BASE Bro. What skills does he have? Go from there. For starters he would be a rigger/doctor/meteorologist/psychiatrist etc.
My learning process was...hmmmm. Learning from dead jumper's mistakes (6 known BASE fatals at that time.). I try to pass that on as an instructor. I hope this helps you in your quest. there were no BASE courses or gear when i started. well, one velcro container.
take care,

If by para-alpinist you mean, following a hiking trail senior citizens are using to get to the cross turning right till you see a rope and dropping afew rocks just to be sure, ide say not much... Maybe the ability to count to 10??

Walker, you asked me this question last January and I threw a bunch of numbers at you. What I should have said is: If you have to ask then you're probably not qualified.

If you have to ask the this questions on the internet you are definitely not qualified.

I told you you should have at least 1000 jumps off of 200 different objects. But, numbers really don't qualify you to be an instructor. You will know when you are ready and won't have to ask anyone when the time comes.

You are still pretty new to the sport. I would take it slow and enjoy the process, instead of focusing on making money from the sport.

Not trying to burst your bubble, just telling you my opinion as a friend.

Hope you are well, be safe out there.

Cheers, Ammon
