base jumpers with disectomy or spinal fusion?
hey guys as we all know slider off openings are really easy on the back Tongue i had a l5-s1 partial disectomy and labrectomy a couple years ago and its been so so, lately the leg pain has really flared up and seems to be effecting my hips now. seeing as if i get surgery again it will likely be a more intensive disectomy or a fusion of that level, my question is has anyone had back surgery disectomy or fusion, with success at alleviating the pain AND being able to continue jumping? right now i can deal with it day by day but it gets pretty intense from time to time.

thanks!

Re: [gahnananana] base jumpers with disectomy or spinal fusion?
I have a couple friends with back issues (one injured when he was young but no real diagnosis and the other had to have some type of surgery) and they swore by yoga. When they would go a few days without doing it the pain would come back. It's annoying to start and get to the point of enjoying it, but I can say that it would definitely help. And doing yoga makes you less likely to be injured when it comes to pulling/over stretching/etc.

I do that shit for a living. avoid surgeons at all cost unless you got severe pain, and/or risk of true permanent nerve injury. The prob with a fusion, and continuing to jump is it just increases the stress on the level directly above that (L4-5) and then that wears out, and then they talk revisions to extend to THAT level...... and so it goes.

True that i got a buddy whose an ortho surgeon and asked him
About getting a disk replacement but apparently they dont have as good as a success rate as the cervical replacement so ill def hold put. I have managable pain so ill hold out for a while.

If anyone tells you to sleep on a hard mattress they should be shot with a ball of their own shit. Go soft and with quality, like night and day for me. Avoid manipulation, when it gets too much I drop 100mg of Voltarene, 1 panos and use Omeprazole to protect my stomach, then sleep it off. Works for me but I hate Doctors/Surgeons.
Ps. Doing sit ups/abdominal workouts only aggravates the situation.
I am not a Doctor, only stating what was prescribed to me.

Swimming works really well for me.

Ive done a bit of swimming, honestly standing and walking are what aggravate it most because i think my
Body still compensates for my presurgery condition but its usually great base jumping or skydiving or
Climbing etc

How's packing? Packing is one of the things that gets my back the most, especially long multi-hour packing sessions.

My pain is so intense every day, I genuinely would blow my brains out if I didn't have family, loved ones and the thought that things will get better as i'm only 3 months in. I plan on taking a PCA when i can jump again, then a weak half second delay and so on. I had a fusion done on my L4.

Edit: The pain isn't even in my back (my back hurts like fuck) but its mainly the numbness with pain in the top of my thigh. I am numb from the left hip down to my knee in the front, gaining sensation as i go further down. The back of my leg is fine, outside is numbish, front is numbish and the inside of my thigh is hyper sensitive and silk would put me in pain.
