Got any of the Olive Drab S/L? I wonder if the color weakens it? Doesn't that happen with Dacron?

We bought together with couple of other jumpers few years back a big spool of the olive drab break cord. I have not done any scientific tests or measurements on it but we have been using it for easily I assume over 100-150 SL jumps so far and it has been working like a charm. My guess is that if we are talking about this stuff http://www.paragear.com/...vel=2&parent=193 it needs to be tested to hold the 80lbs as it is the same stuff they use in military systems. So I´m personally not very worried that the color would somehow weaken the cord.

I've never used the green stuff, but I don't have any doubt it's built to the same specs as the "plain" color I use.

anyone ever experimented with "aged" break cord? i suppose i can do some tests at home. i have break cord thats been in a sealed plastic baggie for about 2 years now, and has been sitting in the house away from any extreme temperatures or direct UV light............. i dont have any new break cord to compare it to at the moment, but i figure ill do some home tests before i use the old stuff in the field vs. some new break cord, just to see.............

Don't go to your local turbine and find it the wrong way round so you need some break tie instead of free-falling it like usual and think "Hey, I've got that bit I've been using as a key ring for a year, that'll be fine." It won't.
As far as storage methods goes, the "key ring" technique sucks. The colour was sort of dirty grey, but I'm not convinced this is the sole reason it had a breaking strain of not-quite-both-pins.
The trees were soft though.

dude.... Most of us who have spools have had them sit on the shelf for years. I bought my current spool March 8th, 2007, and I still have a whole shitload left. Myself and many people I have given lengths of the cord to have used it with no ill effects. I also have lots of if in my field packing bag and a whole bunch in my car, as well as about a foot tucked inside my rig mudflap - all those pieces get used every once in a while and get replaced.

Basically, I would worry more about my GoPro being turned on than about a piece of break cord stored in a plastic baggie for 2 years inside a house.
