Wingsuit BASE Planning & Training
I have recently set a goal to make my 1st wingsuit BASE jump. Of course this is after a several hundred wingsuit skydives and 150 non-wingsuit BASE jumps. The reason I am posting here is to gain input & knowledge from experienced BASE wingsuit flyers around the world in attempt to minimize the risks when making my first, second, third...wingsuit BASE jump.

My goal: July 2014 is my planned month to travel to Kjerag. During this trip, I plan to make my 1st wingsuit BASE jump. At this point I have not jumped any terminal earth. However, I have jumped other terminal objects and slider down earth. I have 1-1/2 years to prepare for this trip & jump.

My equipment: Asylum Perigee Pro, Blackjack 280 (wingload .61). Tonysuit R-Bird

My questions are as follows:

1.) If you had your choice of any place in the world to make a first wingsuit BASE jump, where would you go? Is Kjerag the right choice? If Kjerag is favored, where are the favored exit points?

2.) What training or individuals would you seek/consult?

3.) What equipment regarding container, parachute, pilot chute size, and wingsuit would you have in your quiver?

4.) What is a good exiting body position with a wingsuit?

5.) What is the process used to calculate delay time in a wingsuit? What I mean is an object with a 15 sec impact may end up being 25 sec. with a wingsuit. Is that just know your wingsuit glide, which leads me to #6.

6.) Should I be using a flysite while skydiving my wingsuit?

7.) At pull time, do you continue full flight or fold/collapse like when wingsuit skydiving?

Thanks & Happy New Year!

Man , asking all those questions just show how much you are not ready for this....you should have those answer with close friends face to face.
We have in france two fatalities last 2months, they were wingsuit beginer, and those accidents should have not occured.
Take care, go step by step, things gonna happen soon enought.

You will know the answers to all of these questions when you are ready. Until then, enjoy the ride and don't be in a hurry.

...and Yes, Kjerag is the perfect place to plan for your first jumps. You will have people looking out for you and there will be plenty of advice you can glean from other jumpers.

Is that the experience you have now, or the experience you hope to have? If it's the experience you have now, then quite frankly some of your questions are rather strange. If it's the experience you hope to have, then by the time you've got it you'll know the answers to a lot of those questions anyway.

For now, Kjerag is a decent place but plan at least two weeks to guarantee* some good weather, everything else can wait.

(* Good weather in Norway not guaranteed)

It may be kind of obvious but its better to say it than assume someone else already told you. Try practicing your exit into dead air from a balloon. That way you can find the right exit position for yourself and become comfortable with it before the risk of colliding with a cliff is present.

Absolutely true and the reason I posted this to try to gain as much knowledge and input from experienced wingsuit flyers. If 2014 comes and I don't have the majority of the answers, judgement, knowledge, or skill I won't make the jump, because luck doesn't exist in this sport. I too read the BFL very frequently and try to learn from it and have noticed the majority of the recent fatalities have been wingsuiters. I sure as hell don't want one of those numbers.

No, I do not have quite that experience in wingsuit jumps. However, I need to set a goal and progress toward that goal. I'm not the type of person that shows up on the edge of a cliff with my wingsuit one day and says, OK its time to jump. in 1.5 yearss I plan to have twice or even three times the experience I have today. Those who personally know me can attest for me being an extremely calculated individual, gathering the facts required to mitigate the majority of the risk.

Thanks for the info on the location and weather conditions. I've been hearing that quite regularly about Kjerag. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! Very inspiring to hear their will be jumpers that will help. Do you know of any that specifically coach/mentor wingsuiters in Kjerag?

Agree that multiple jumps from a balloon &/or helicopter are a prerequisite to a 1st wingsuit BASE.
