Insurance ? - Based off of "save $$$ thread"
This is a legit question....

If you have insurance who is it through and do they cover base related accidents? Open enrollment is coming up for me soon and I'm thinking of switching providers.

From what I know from my experience, and having an aunt who is a labor attorney and knows insurance law inside and out, it is not often that you find an insurance company who doesn't cover BASE. Regardless, if you want to find out, read the booklet (that none of us do) that you are given by the insurance company when you get a policy. Or, your HR person should have a copy for you to read. It should spell out what they do/do not cover.

And to answer your question, I have BCBS.

*Disclaimer* I am not an expert!

I have Anthem-Blue Cross. There are no policy exclusions for BASE.

Regardless of how much bone is showing... It was a slip while exiting the bath.

Its hard to find objects that 'cover or allow base jumping'. Occasionally jumpers bend the rules, perhaps using a little social engineering to get what they need.

It can be fun.

don't let your er visit be a drag(for the hc provider), make up a creative story to entertain your doctor. that and you'll receive 8.3% better care

Personally I like stories that involve.. an act of god, equipment maintenance, and nudity.

Or y'all could just sit light in the harness and touch down softly Crazy

And if you are just in the ER to get pain medications, at least come up with something clever. Ill write you for vicodin or norco if you sustained rectal trauma from experimentation, but not if you have chronic low back pain, you aint getting shit

Will a "stuck" Coke bottle work for you, ShockedCrazy

or do I need to come up with something new?

Insurance Chit-Chat
Back when the economy was robust and I had a
real jobby-job my insurance was provided and paid
for by my employer. As with most office jobs there
is an expectation that you sit at your desk in shiny
clothes and at least look busy for 40+ hours a week
even if your job can be done superbly in 20 hours...

SO yes I have read the fine print and here is a quick
paraphrase of the most operative language from my
insurance provider:

The insured is immediately NOT-covered should he
or she voluntarily eject themselves from a moving
plane, train, automobile, and/or water vessel.

So everyone in Tally knows to say we were pushed Wink

Never a bad idea to check with your local air medical company to see if they have a membership program.

i know air st lukes in twin falls is $55 a year and the company i fly for offers membership for the entire family at $65 a year. each one is different but ours offers nothing out of pocket for care but you must have health insurance to enroll. when you consider it is $12k when we take off with a patient plus $140 a mile they are on board.. $65 is cheap

I never read any stipulation in my BC/BS insurance.

However, I had to go on short term disability after my accident. If I was busted up and charged with something, the disability probably would have been denied from participating in a so called illegal act. Thankfully, mine was legit and Metropolitan approved my short term disability.

What if it's not experimentation but rather repeated masochistic trauma? I'm just asking for a friend. His name is Slambo.

I had a low turn to avoid what we call "The pit of doom" and went for x-Rays to check that my leg wasn't broken (luckily no injuries), It was minor so I decided to test if my insurance really does cover BASE jumping.

When the admin lady asked me what happened:

Me:"I base jumped off a building and had a hard landing"
Admin lady: "oh ok, bungee jump"
Me: "I parachuted off a building, no bungee chords were used"
Admin Lady: "Oh you mean skydiving"
Me: "No, base jumping off a fixed object"
Admin lady: "Is that like a rope swing"
Me: "No, it's similar to skydiving, but off a building"
Admin Lady: "I don't have that on my system, I've put fell off a building"

Test passed Tongue

Even if you want to claim for base jumping over here, they don't know how to categorize it.

3rd world countries have their advantages Laugh
