I like them titles. So where can we see those 'must watch' videos?? Have they been uploaded to YouTube or anywhere? BTW was it normal to do back flips while going hand held, with all that bridle floppin, back then?
They are truly classic videos and are hard to find. I got mine from Mike, who I saw every year at Bridge Day. "From Gravity Came Groundrush" is a BASE version of Norman Kent's "From Wings Came Flight". I told Mike that I thought he should sell copies but he told me that he wanted his videos to be passed around as a kind of "underground" thing.
In that spirit I digitized and posted one of the videos on youtube and got an immediate and negative (but tactful) reaction from his niece, who is a filmmaker. She was in the process of making a movie about BASE, intended to use some of Mike's footage, and viewed my posting the video as copyright infringement.
I'm not saying this to slam her. She's family and I'm not.
To further complicate things, some of the video was shot by Bryan Scott, who is still very much alive and still doing video. I know Bryan and like and respect him. He is protective of his work and that is his right. Out of respect for him, I won't distribute it.
I strongly feel that the video I have needs to be digitized so it will be preserved. It is BASE history. I don't know what the solution is, but these are treasures that should be seen.
I suggest posting in another forum and asking if anyone has any of Mike Allen's BASE video and can show them to you.
Regarding the flips while going handheld, nearly all jumps back then were handheld. Aerials, were nowhere near as common as they are today and viewed as being a bit nuts, so I don't think there was any kind of standard practice for them at the time.
