Re: [scottynice] bah humbug
No worries, Scottynice. Everyone has their right to complain and I'm not mad. I often call it constructive criticism and the world does need more of it.
I have not viewed the DVD, but judging by some of the comments I received, it's probably not as smooth as what you've seen in the past. Last year, the DVD didn't get done until April and I was stuck in the middle of a lot of angry emails. Some even included the threat of a lawsuit. Lawsuits over BASE DVD? Geez.
My task for the last decade as been to find a quality video crew who can film the event, edit a DVD, and sell it to jumpers in a reasonable amount of time after BD. Many jumpers want to see their jumps on video and I feel this service adds to the event. However, things don't always turn out as expected. In my agreement with the video crew, I plug their product, give them passes to get their cameras in all the right places, and sometimes help them sell the final product. Although I have a contract with them, I have never collected any money from the video crew since it's a job that doesn't offer any profits. And when the shit hits the fan, I'm stuck in the middle. I won't even discuss the fact that the Bridge Day Commission has recently been hinting at taking a cut of sales.
In a world full of GoPros and high expectations, it's just not worth the hassle to offer the BD video anymore. And that's really unfortunate for everyone.
